Hey
I need two small things for my car ('71 Type 3)
1. An interior light
2. The little steel exhaust U-bend bit that has another seperate smaller pipe coming off it... uhh.. hard to explain lol.. the smaller pipe connects to another pipe that runs up the side of the engine. I think it has something to do with the heater, And theres one on each side of the motor. I need the right hand (driver's) side one.
Thanks,
Josie

check ebay .au i'm sure i seen one there
👍👍😂🙅🥷😬🤓
Jo
the air pipe is very important on a Type 3 as it is needed to help the cooling of the engine, there are several different sizes and depending on which exhaust system you have, also there is a section of rubber that joins the tubes these are not available anywhere i went searching for some last saturday , so u might have to come up with some thing else
Can you take a pic i have the tube and exhaust area where it was fitted
Quote of the week
"Do I wish to send them to you again, nope, no interest can't be bothered really, to much hassle for little or no return."

Thanks guys..
About that exhuast peice.. the cooling part is hooked up, using that flexible pipe stuff.. but the small steel pipe that runs up the side of the engine is open.
I'll get a pic of it this weekend when the engine is out.
Jo, I have a spare interior light if the ebay one doesnt pan out for you.

That small tube connects to a thermostat mounted up under the rear seat which allows cold air from the engine fan to be mixed with hot air from the heat exchangers. This is supposed to regulate the temperature of air which enters the passenger compartment. None of mine are connected. I don't know about you, but here in Melbourne we need all the heat we can get in winter. I'm guessing Tassie is the same.
If you aren't looking for a fully original car, you can use some of that corrugated paper/foil tube in place of the U piece. If you have the U piece, make sure you plug the little tube stub that sticks off the side.
As far as I know that little tube has nothing to do with engine cooling, but you don't want it leaking cooling air from the fan shroud.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.
u have u2u but my lite is cracked now...fell down
chrome nice
6v or 12??
want any vw bits old but like me, Made in Germany!!!
Thanks bushed.. already got a light organised.
Purple T3.. the important bits are hooked up (the cooling stuff) using that foil tube stuff just that smaller tube isn't connected (the one that runs up the side of the motor) Would this effect my heater?
Nope. Will make your heater run a bit hotter.
Actually, I just figured out that with out the pipe attached the mixer box will allow hot air to escape, therefore decreasing the amount of heating you will get into the cabin. I would just block up the little stubs on the thermostat boxes. You will have to lie on your back under the car and follow the heater tubes from the heat exchangers on the engine to where they connect to the car body. Those odd shaped boxes are held on by three screws. Remove the boxes and you will see a little pipe coming from the top. Just block that pipe to keep your heater air in and reinstall the boxes.
