i guess about 18 at the wheels exactly half what it came out with considering i would emagine it never made 36 at the wheels either way will be very intersesting.

Wow those numbers are getting pretty small Alan!!?
Double figure would be nice though!
To give some food for thought,
my 40 horse(34din) with mods to intake and exhaust ran a 20.95 et at the track(62mph),
and that formula that I use calculated that to be 33.5 hp at the flywheel.(1800lbs weight)
A standard 40horse VW would be lucky to crack 25 sec,(27 was road test figures published I think).
And on most dynodynamics dynos(which THAT one IS NOT I believe),
I have seen 13% off engine power at the wheels, or add 15% to the wheel figure.
So based on that...
30 hp DIn = 26hp at the wheels.
So factoring in age, and errors for dynos, and weather conditions...I will stick with my 20 hp guess.
My last dyno trip had 188hp so I would like to be between that, and 200.
24.3 HP allowing for drive-train loss and engine age. I just plucked those figures out of the air.
C'mon Craig. It's not that hard to guess a figure. Maybe you'll be able to come up with something third time lucky. Or are you just stalling so you can dyno test your own 36hp engine to get a better guess. We all know how competitive you are.
Nice post Alan. Hopefully we'll see the beast at Warwick. We can time the 1/8th with a sun dial.
That is Fantasic Allan ! great idea mate.
Everyone seems a little scared to enter but it's all about just getting a bunch of vw people all together !!!!!
Standed vw entrys are thin ! Would love to see a few more stock entrys and kombi's .
All in good fun ! Gas it up Allan ? 22hp on a cool , cold day
Thanks jo_tas - list is updated! I'll finish the clock this weekend and post pics 🙂
As Pete says, its all about having some fun and getting together and talking volkswagens......even if you don't own a high powered machine! You can't get much lower than my oval, so for anyone thinking the day is only for the "big boys" with hi-po volksies - think again!
Get your 1200, 1300, 1500, 1600 dubs on for some fun. It is kinda like drag racing, people can be worried about racing because they may be slow.....but its not all about the times (or in this case the hp), it is just getting out there and having some fun whilst having a good yarn to mates and new acquaintances in the vw scene! Eg. at warwick last year my best time was 10.5sec (in the 1/8th mile!) - one of the slowest cars there but I had an absolute ball and I am now hooked!
C'mon guys, lets support those willing to put on these events for us enthusiasts and enter your cars for DYNOMANIA! dak-a-tak or LIFE IN THE LOW LANE will be happy to help out.
Alright - finished the "prize" tonight......if you win but think it is ugly, well I guess it could be a good garage clock - somewhere out of sight!
I reckon it's not too bad but I am a little biased - was going to paint the hands as the gold looks a bit iffy but I'll leave that up to the winner so they can do what they want! I'll post it at my cost (hopefully aus post won't think it is a bomb)
We'll use the old Price is Right rules - the person who comes the closest to the final dyno figure, but remains under the figure wins (eg. person A guesses 18.2, person B guesses 18.9........final dyno figure is 18.8 = person A wins).
Well alan seeing as i have done a hell of a lot of runs on htis dyno and can vouch for it's accuracy when I back to back tested the ol' bosch dyno of CES' against a dyno dynamics and the difference was just under kw I say she is pretty damm on the money.
As for the lowest HP on this dyno I'm not 100% sure but thought i did get told somewhere around 16kw(21ish HP) so we'll have to see what happens.
my guess is 19.7hp(taking into account wear and tear, age and prolly the use of heavy oil to keep things quiet LOL)
ACCEPT THAT SOME DAYS YOU ARE THE PIDGEON AND SOME DAYS YOU ARE THE STATUE
Last chance to guess today - no more guesses will be accepted after 7am tomorrow morning (Sat 28 July)....so if you keen to have a crack, get in before then.
Alan
