Ok heres my problem, my lights on my 72 Squareback are on the fritz.

When I turn on my headlights to full they go into the parking light 'mode', the same brightness as they'd be if they were set to the same mode if the ignition was off. From this position I am able to flash my highbeams but they refuse to stay on (I can only flash them).

Does this sound like a problem in the relay? or int he switch?

I'm open to ideas.

Thanks...Nick

I don't have a squareback, but I have had the exact symptoms on my beetle. In my case, two of the crimp plugs at the switch were touching. Maybe have a look and make sure that it's not the case?
Thats not rust, it's ah ... orange primer ... yep that's what it is ...
