Hi All,I have just purchased a 73 Super bug,I removed the engine to rectify an oil leak from the rear crank seal,I found when it was dismantled it has fitted 92mm mahle pistons and barrels and a mild cam all of which are in good condition.I wish to fit a 1600 stock standard twin port engine, any help where in SA I could buy one would be appreciated.Great site.Cheers herbgrinder

Howdy herb,

I know of two places here in SA, Volks Care Windsor gardens 8369 1233 and V and T Motors Pty Ltd Lonsdale 8382 8111 .

I myself havet visited either for motor parts but i did have a chat to volkscare once and they were really helpfull and decently priced.

also u might wanna try GHR motor on Daws Road it's close to train track with blue fence and you'll see lots of vw in there. the number for GHR is 08 8276 8440..
but i doubt you'll be able to just buy engine off of them cause they usually do swap

Mmmm i had a bad experience with them, they tuned up my autostick and replaced the seal, but they damaged the seal on reentry and when i took it back they tried to blame me, they finally conceited it was their fault and the car sat outside for a week, until they got annoyed with pestering me and used sellys all seal to seal it up.

I've never had them working on my car most of the time i go there i buy parts off of them and they usually give me the usual "put it all back to standard" advice... anyway they are always grumpy old people. so i don't know you're probably right.. i could just go order parts from HSY autoparts on southroad but i'm just a naive kid.. some advice from old grumpy people wouldn't hurt

Not really on the topic, BUT, GHR have a good rep and have been around for years and years. I've only dealt with them once and they seemed fine. The guy talked VWs with me for a bit in the yard (while he was having a smoke). They're cheap (compared with some) but have no EFTPOS or credit card facilities which is a pain for me. Will probably be taling the Golf there for its next service and brake reline.

Hey,

Try Peter and Adam Debiasi, (Debiasi Auto repairs) they are excellent VW mechanics and are located in Cavan, fairly central location.

Good luck!
