They only need to be bored to suit the bigger cyls Dave. The later 60s case with the slipper bearings is always better than the earlier case without as we all know too well. The 69mm crank also goes straight in for the 1500/1600.vw54 wrote:i dont think u can fit the 1600 barrels into the early case and you need the crank as well

I have still to make up my mind about how to best utilize this case... probably the limited amount of available moola will determine which path I take... any offers?

Ha ha! Now you're sounding more like crappyoldcapitalist than happyoldhippy....happyoldhippy wrote:yep, that's right..... an AS41 is at least US$650.00 too, so it also would be getting close to a grand by the time it's imported.
thanks for the tip-off!

Its a 40hp case, not a 36hp case.modulus wrote:But for sure a NOS German 1200 case will be of interest to those who want to build 36 HP challenge engines.

I think one of my earlier suggestions to Happyoldhippy was to bore it for 1600 pots as it's the later case with cam slippers. For a standard daily driver where it isn't going to be flogged the case will stand up ok, especially since it's new.vassy66T1 wrote:I know "happyoldhippy" and have for about 20 years.
He is the nicest guy and a genuine enthusiast. (i.e. he really loves VW's)
