Stronger Transaxle Required
Hiya All, I purchased a 1968 Vw Beetle with a 13BT recently, I live in Perth, this vehicle has done the rounds. I am currently running a Rancho Pro
street Irs box and need something stronger as this is this cars Achilles Heel. So far it seems to have had a Superdiff from states fitted, a 2nd hand
transaxle - unknown fitted, and a new Pro Street Irs fitted. I am taking it in to have a highflow turbo fitted, bigger injectors, tune and new
clutch. I am preparing for when the box decides to let go. Does anyone know of a straight fit box/transaxle that will be suitable for about 300HP
atw. I am hoping this box will last but im having my doubts.
Thank you.

have you considered the Subaru WRX box? With the reversed CW&P parts available it should easily handle your 300bhp

Hiya psimitar, what is involved in getting the gearbox to fit, do you know? Do you know someone that has fitted the wrx box to a beetle? Also, I
would have to mate it to a rx7 motor. Do you know how much will be involed in this? Is the wrx gearbox straight fit with CW&P parts. THank you,

Here's the website of the guy that makes the reversed CW&P.
Subaru Gears
It shows everything you'll need to make the box fit and would know if a subie to wankle adapter exists.
He even rents out for free the subie tool to align the pinion shaft if you do the work yourself. He can also sell you a complete rebuilt box with the
reversed gear already installed.
I'm doing it as I have an EJ22 to go in my bug but have a word with dangerous on the cost of a 2L kombi built box and then compare this to the subie
conversion remembering that you get five gears with the subie box for good motorway cruising. That my opinion but I know lots of VW peeps like to stay
more original

Hiya Psimitar, thanks for this, will look into it, i have a pro street series box from states at the moment, i dont think it is going to hold up as
has been through 2 boxes already at 220hp. I would rather 5 speed, if the subie one holds up better might be an option. Subie boxes i thought were
not that strong though, 2nd gear pretty weak, is this right. Bear in mind the 13bt would be a bit more aggressive that a subie motor.

Well the std subie can take 250bhp quite easily and the later TY754 is probably stronger than the TY752. I've heard of 2nd gear issues but in pretty
big output motors tho full throttle shifting is known for killing 2nd aswell just cos it ain't designed for this sort of abuse.
A stronger 2nd will be available from a subie performance company.
