Bomber Seats
Does anyone know anything about the adr's that cover occupant seating and seat construction, like when it came in and if it was backdated?
I'm loving these bomber style seats but I'm not sure if they'd be legal in Australia.

Been scouring the code of practice and relevent adr's and so far I have these points to highlight.
quoted from NCOP7 Section LK Seating and Occupant Protection V2 01Jan2011
Quote: |
Modified vehicles must continue to comply with the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) to whichthey were originally constructed, except as allowed for in
the Australian Vehicle StandardsRules (AVSR). These modified vehicles must also comply with the applicable in-servicerequirements of the AVSR.Modified
pre-ADR vehicles must continue to comply with the AVSR.
|
So I started searching the ADR's and so far I have found nothing covering seats prior to 1971 and even then it only covers seat anchoring not
construction. Now being that my Bug is a 66 it means the car never had to comply with these adr's so that would make it exempt from this rule?
Trying to look up the AVSR's to see what they say but having trouble finding them.

the only thing the AVSR's state about seating is
"32 Seating
A seat for a driver or passenger in a vehicle must be securely
attached to the vehicle." :/

As novel as they are, wouldn't they be a tad uncomfortable?

I won't know until I try them, but they would suit the theme of my build nicely.

Well it's not about safety!
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Theoretically your vehicle is not covered by ADRs as long as it remains stock.
If you change the seats away from standard then they need to be compliant with VSRs and/or inspected.
Consider that in the past I have received a yellow sticker for tyres that were actually listed on the tyre placard (an ADR plate for an imported
vehicle) as being approved fitment, it seems the constable involved knew better than ADRs or tech inspectors.
Which means that even though I reckon personally they're cool as crap, and would absolutely LOVE to have them in an older ride, I would never go down
that road myself because getting pulled up constantly by constable's who can't read or have been directed to look for "different" is all too easy
nowadays it seems, and for me it would just suck all the joy out of it.
You may have more patience than me, and they do look great I rekn!
