spinning gearstick?????
My panelvan gear selector (gearstick) spins, now ive taken the selector out and this selector doesnt have the little pin that aligns it foward and it
never has buy the look of things, as there is no slot in the rod pocket (?) either that it goes into, its a 57 panel.
i have another selector off a later splitbus, but as the rod doesnt have the slot, i cant use it, because the selector in the 57 is further rearward
in the car than an a slightly younger split. its so frustrating not being able to drive this beast...
Any advice welcome.
Is it meant to spin? i dont think so, cause i cant get a gear consiquently.

It does spin! The gearstick in my 59 can
turn as well (earlier busses had no pins as you point out....)
Got nuthin to do with not being able to get a gear! That's either adjustment (of shift position), bushes (there's a couple in the
'tunnel' and one where the shift rod joins the tranny), nosecone (selectors locked up) or tranny....
Is it solid or just flopping about? If flooping about check you have got the rear bush and that the lock bolts are actually in it....

Its just flopping about Rob, the rear coupling is done up reasonably good (alitttle stuffed from removing the old one) matbe the nosecone is no good
but , i would think that it would be stiff if that was the case, Bushes, i beleive they are completly gone, i supose they might take up abit of the
flacidity (that sounds so bad). It just doesnt make any sense to me, So yours spins all the time? weird design.

coupling! my brain couldn't produce that
word for love or money when I wrote that post!
Get someone to wangle the stick while you get underneath looking at the rear coupling. Is the rear coupler moving (turning and moving in longitudinal
axis) and in turn moving the hockey stick (protruding from the tranny - is it rotating and moving in and out?).
If not moving the problems further forward. If the rear coupl;er and hockey stick are connected and moving all around in a floppy fashion you have
a problem - maybe nosecone/selectors in the nosecone have a problem.
If the original splitcase box? (does it have a seam right down the middle with nuts and bolts each side?)

cooopliing (coupling), i always say it with a russian accent due to my machine elements leturerer...strange man.
Anyway it is the origional split case, is yours, i imagion that its likly that its rooted, as it was a work horse for someone for many many moons, but
ill take your advice and run with it.
Would it make a difference being an old splitcase? thanks Rob.
