Looks to be a 66ish 1600 type3 engine #

the 366 vin probably means aussie built type3
So yes the 2 probably do go together

I bought a couple of engines recently.
A Type 3 straight out of a Wagon, I didn’t get the year. T123***X
A Type 1, didn’t see what it came out of. AD846***
Both are twin port 1600, dual relief cases, 8mm head studs with case savers, 12V generators. Interestingly the T3 has the larger T4 twin carbs.
The US web sites say no 8mm studs until 1970?
I can’t seem to find any information on Australian engine and chassis numbers, only US. Perhaps someone can show us one?

Never rely on what US sites say when it comes to Aus cars
all my twinport engines upto 74 have had 10mm studs

an AD 8xxx engine would be a late 73 Lbug engine
or kombi engine a kombi if its got the hanger mounting points

You might find some info on our post under the type 3 forum on aus type threes. The numbers seem like an aussie 1600 type 3 at first glance..

Cheers Vice

I looks like a 1966 type 3 , a photo of the manifold will determine if its twin port or not , this will generally indicate that the motor is a 1600, also have a look at the engine case prefix (On sides of sump)

It should be an early-to-mid 1966 station wagon. The nrs. would appear to be within about a year of each other, but the best way to tell may be to compare to a similar original model, or someone's record of one...
The T means Twin-carb, which were only on the 1600, not the 1500. These (1600's) were all twin port.

[Vicelore:- which type 3 forum?!]

Yes sorry, forgot about the S 1500 (have never had one). Don't think they have the T prefix (I think it started in 1966 with the 1600.)
Is it an "R" prefix for tye S (an old book says this for 1964 on, twin carb. 1500)?
