toe in
what is the preferred toe in on a link pin front end
mines set at 3 ml overall , it steers okay just wondering what other people set theirs at.

Have you checked the castor, it's just as important as the toe, about 4 degrees, helps self centre the steering and increases straight line stability

had castor shims in it ,just on 4 degrees,steering was stiff when turning,took them out heaps better nice and light. its not twitchy ,you can steer it
with one hand on the wheel on backroads & tar no worries, it just seems that your constantly playing with the wheel ,instead of relaxing . its a
baja bug ,torsion bars are adjusted a bit higher but not very much , it hasn,t got any bump steer it doesnt dart of the road when you hit
bumps,steering box could be a bit worn but its prety bloody direct about one ml play.

If you are running high profile tyres, then you have more leeway. 3mm is fine.

The castor gives you straight line stability, i run 7" x 17" rims on the front with 4 degrees of castor , it is a bit heaver to park the car but it
tracks straight at a 100 KLM's a hour, you can take your hand's of the wheel at that speed and it does not wander

Castor is one of those things hardly anyone gives any consideration when lowering a bug.
A standard bug benefits greatly from castor shims and any superbug dropped below about 2.5-3" should have some castor fix bushings.
People just assume VWs handle like crap at high speeds when it just takes a proper setup front end and they ace high speeds.

When I was at the dealership the standard setting was 1/16' to an 1/8th",this was set with a trammel bar always worked well for over 40 years with
no problems.
