Try again

This is my 2nd time posting after hitting the wrong thing down the bottom!@##$
Anyway happy to be able to be here after dreaming about a Beetle for about 20 years. My 1971 std bought from Darwin should arrive on Tuesday(freight cost the same as purchase price ((lots of teeth gnashing going on here)). just after purchase of the 71 my uncle-in-law? says he has a 65 which has been parked up since May 1987 which I can have! So the 71 will be the learning session till I move down to North Coast NSW and can rebuild the 65(resto, modify dont know yet) Couple of pics of the 65 here, thought it had new pans but the uncle said no, untouched

Not a '65 more likely a 1960 beetle by the 50/50 tailights and fuel tap and non override bumpers and wide trim on running boards. A keeper for sure.

Welcome aboard and definitely a late 60/61 model, as I thought from the first photo. If you want to sell this one, please let me know.

All the best with the 71.

Kev

Make a great Rat. Unmolested original '60 = 3-4g's depending on rust issues. Interior looks great and pan looks to have survived well. Good find (great uncle)

Thanks guys. He bought it off the original owners family when he passed away, late 60s he thinks. Anyway the owners manual is still in it and the earliest date we could find was from a service stamp from 1965. Will have to get the frame no. next time Im down there and chase it up.
The 71 is ready to be picked up tomorrow, hangin to take it for a spin, I havent been in a bug since 1992!!!! Am not gonna sleep tonight

Its here!!!! You just CAN NOT drive one of these without smiling. this is the only Bug in town so everyone in town who I pass is pointing and grinning too!!
Back to reality, I have been gathering a list of parts needed to pass rego and am having trouble finding some bits. Eg. rear wheel cyls and shoes, wheel bearings (I was going to say headlights but I found another thread here which sorted that one) Mainly basic service items. The other thing is if they have to come from different shops freight will kill me dollars and time wise, think 3 weeks minimum unless I fork out for Australian Air Express.
Cant help it, I gotta go jump in it again

Got the chassis no. last trip down to the inlaws farm. Looks like it is a December 1960 build. Also found a complete set of wings, seats bonnet and boot in the shed, all in good nick. Cant wait to get stuck into this, might be sooner rather than later if the price of alumina doesnt rise sharpish!!!
