Clutch pressure plate and disc for 1800 bus high HP


I have the 135hp Subaru motor on our bus, and the LUK brand pressure plate and Brasilian friction disc are no good.

Any recommendations for a better pressure plate and disc setup? This is not a drag car. We do some towing, and as I said the LUK from new was no good.

Not wanting crazy heavy snap clutch. But do need more pressure than the LUK. I want to cover my bases up to around 170hp.

As far as I know, KEP only do 200 and 228mm. If it has to be 215, I'd get a custom clutch by Jim Berry (no relation) he is one of the best on the planet. http://raceclutch.com.au/

Nice one matty,jim is the man when it comes to clutches,he can quite possibly mod your LUK pressurd plate and he'll know what to do disc wise.

It is 1800 bellhousing and flywheel, so 215mm yep.

Hi

I used Jim Berry cluch in my 1302, it worked fine.

It was expensive but any good work is going to cost.

But the awkward part was i had to send my flywheel and to him to be setup with the pressure plate, it could be a pain having the car of the road waiting for him to work on the pressure plate.

Maybe he can do a 210 off the shelf, but when I delt with him 228 was the way he wanted me to go.

Can you get your flywheel altered to accept a 228 clutch and go Kennendy?

1800 bellhousing, 1800 starter new, 1800 flywheel machined and balanced. So a total loss of those parts to change to a 228 clutch.

I would need a 2 litre bellhousing, starter, and flywheel modified for Subaru conversion. to go to 228mm.

All I need is a better 215mm pressure plate than an LUK

Id be looking up exeedy, sachs or KEP to find if they have a 215mm pressure plate and disc to suit. would be my first option.

as always be carefull for the word "GERMAN" being used to discribe the brand of parts, then you find china, korea, brazil stamped on them.

Mine is 228mm using stock sachs disc with stage 2 KEP pressure plate, is a bit heavy but drives nice and smooth
with plenty of clamp and no slipping @ around 300+hp.

the 215mm size is uncommon so not much choice , where as the 228mm you have choice galore.

Just make sure the one you go for is 100% the right one you need, also ask for specs, ie clamp pressure etc

Hi

I'm sure you could get your existing flywheel turned out to 228, then you could keep all of existing hardware.

Some 1800s used a 210 mm clutch, is yours a 210 or 215?.

I ran a 228 clutch and flywheel in a Beetle box with just a slight touch up to clear the bell housing, I also used a semi auto starter.

Mike from CBB at Penrith made my clutch over 9 years ago, hasn't slipped once, & I've tried!

he took my LUK clutch plate & changed the centre to what ever pressure I wanted.

I highly recommend him.
