EJ22 oil pressure
The plan is to try and start the engine this weekend using a mega squirt ECU.
I have the colling system filled, fuel in the tank and oil in the sump.
I am spinning the engine over trying to get oil pressure, with no luck.
I have remmoved the pressure sensor, and tested its function. I have also tried spinning the engine over withthe sensor removed, I don't get any oil
coming out. I have also squirted oil down the oil pressure hole to try and prime the pump.
Any advise? I would prefere to have oil pressure befor trying to start the engine!
Cheers
John

John have you had the sump off the motor ?
I have a ej22 here that did the same , no noise coming from the motor at all when cranking over .
Removed the sump & the pickup tube was at the bottom of the pan , along with a conrod .

I have removed the sump, so that I could shorten it. I have also shortened the pick up. I welded some washers to the bottom of the pick so that if
for some reason the bottom of the sump moved up then it wouldn't block the pickup.
I have also tried to fill the oil pressure line up with oil and turn the engine over backwards to prime the pump - still no luck.
I am assuming that cranking the enigne over on the starter will result in some oil from the pressure side coming from the oil pressure sensor hole?
The engnine has been removed from the donor car for a while. At least 1 year in my garage! and my at the breaker that sold it to me.

sorted now.
I removed the oil filter (which I had filled with oil when I first fitted it) then span the the engine over, after a couple of seconds oil started to
flow, replaced the filter and acouple more seconds and I had pressure. Not sure why this all happened, but I am now ready for the big start
tommorow!.
Cheers seagull for your help

its called AIR LOCK
John if you unsure of the ks , run some oil flush through the motor , this will clean out any of the muck that may be sitting about works a treat , as
the lifters are very small in the ej22 about about the size of a 1/4 drive 8 mm socket .

Gear type pumps have small clearances in them. They don't pump air very well, so with the resistance of the oil filter in place nothing would move.
Once oil got to the pump things started to move.
With a newly rebuilt engine, many builders pack the pump with petroleum jelly to ensure that the pump will prime properly.
Good thing you checked this out.
