Looks interesting. Does it lift the shifter higher, so its not as far to reach down from the wheel?

I think it would work like the standard shifter. Counter pressure. Push down. Looks nice:tu:

Do what dad did in mine. Short shift kit and the shorter type 3 stick. It is short as and still blends in and looks standard

Pioneer head unit that I have, 2 ~ kenwood 10inch subs (have these too) behind the rear seat. Boss audio amp (from my mate), jaycar electronics 6x9's in the parcel shelf and 6 inch splits in the front kick panels. :) this is a fair way off too, but it's on the list! Man my list is long!

Hi Jason

You can buy a quick shaft from anywhere these day for $10 or $20. Just follow Joel's post on the shift rod bush replacement to install a quick shift, these cut the throw down about 40%.

Davids car has a Type 3 gear stick, these need a little bit of work to fit.

The later bugs have a rotating gear stick, early bugs and Type 3s have the gearstick anchored so that it doesn't rotate, its anchored by a pin that pokes out the front of the gear stick base.

To fit a Type 3 non rotating gear stick you just need to cut a slice in the gear shift rod to accommodate the pin with an angle grinder, with the rod removed of course.

I prefer the Type 3 gear stick because it has a bend in that moves it back toward the driver.

thanks for the info steve.

do the quickshift kits look like this?

http://www.cbperformance.com/catalogimages/6315.jpg

"The most economical way to shift faster and easier under all driving conditions. Shortens throw of VW shift linkage by 40%. Heavy duty sturdy construction. Easy to install, no special tools needed."

Is the Type 3 shifter any year in particular? (you say early... I'm guessing 65ish?)

I shall check out joels shift rod bushing thread.

thanks heaps :)

those quick shift kits look the works!

I bought one. was an empi... I had a second hand one too.

I used the second hand one cause the reverse lock out plate fitted straight in firmly... while the empi was a little more rough cut with a very small amount of metal protrusions that would have to be filed off. it would take a minute to clean up, but i was lazy. They aren't that bad though (the empi ones)

But all in all... i have a spare one around!
I'm pretty sure i got the rest of it sitting on the pan, will have to have a geeze. but if your interested... give a holla.

mind you, CB for $6... you can't go wrong and its made by a reputable company as you are well aware.

2 more items added to the wanted list!

i will have to do some chasing of the type 3 shifter... but im sure that the easy part.
for me, getting it done is the tough part!
