engine stalls, what can cause that?
Hi there,
I have a 1971 Type 3 and for some reason my engine stall when it runs on idle. It does it whether it is cold or hot and the confusing (for me) thing
is that up to recently it was running just fine. I did refill with premium unleaded and added lead replacement (just got the car recently so that was
my first refill). Could it be due to the petrol/lead replacement?

Does it stop instantly it comes back to idle... or just sort of idle slower and slower until it stops ???
First one unlikely to be bad fuel... more like something electrical... maybe the condenser or cut-off jet disconnected.
Second one could be bad fuel, or possibly just the idle speed set too slow.

Thanks Sides,
It doesn't start as well as it did two weeks ago, it kind of runs but when you take the foot off the accelerator it slowly stalls. I started her up
yesterday and she kind of doesn't run as smooth and again once I took the foot off the accelerator she got slower and slower and eventually stalled.
How is your EFI going?

I would try draining the replacing the fuel. I had similar problems on another vehicle and it ended up being a bad batch of fuel (premium).
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

you have either bad fuel or blocked filters and maybe anew set of points and condenser im leaning towards fuel there are usually 1 inline filter check
along the fuel line for it and there is a filter in the fuel tank
a quick check is to take the fuel line of the pump an it should run freely.mind you a set of points and condenser wont hurt and it could be that the
points have closed up
good luck

most likely to be off fuel or perhaps you have a fuel blockage, dosent sound very electrical although i agree new points and condenser wouldnt
hurt..............check the timing

I decided to take the bubble to the local petrol station this weekend and she ran beautifully. I then took her for longer drive the following day and
again there were no dramas. Is it possible that whatever made he stalling earlier was burned through....?
I am also considering just running ULP rather than adding lead replacement. Quite a few people seem to work that way, did anyone have problems doing
that?
