forget the heavier spring just get a boost controller. My car used to suffer badly (apart from running out of fuel) from wastegate creep. Fitted a
boost controller I bought from ebay and all is good (apart from windows in pistons).

yeah, should be happy with that and just enjoy the thing for a while rather than push the boost envelope and be pulling stuff apart yet again with
more $$$ invested
should be able to run boost control solenoid through computer anyways?

It has boost control solenoid but wastegate spring simply gives up the ghost at just under 14psi and opens so no more boost can be built. Matt mucked
around with it for about 20 minutes or so and did multiple runs to no avail. Heavier spring on the way!! He also bumped the limiter up to 7000rpm to
see how the power curve went. Sounded awesome at that rpm but power dropped off around 6500 so limiter is set there.
Sorry for the pic quality I took them with my phone!! Was hot under the back trust me!!
Anyone for some red hot pipes???

I still say pink but good on ya Troy for sticking with it.
This thing is destined to make good power. Just keep in mind the grand plan and how it will go in the bug.
Us forced induction dudes need to stick together. Don't know about you but i'd rather be blown than stroked.

im with stanley, but as for the pipes i think if you touched them you would know they are red hot. I will be sticking with this tune till after
warwick as i will need to save another $450 to tune it again after changing the wastegate spring but the main thing is its still together after being
punished after about 25 power runs and many high rpm tune changes. Cant wait to drive the tube car with this engine, look out!!!

Just a suggestion but getting a tougher wastegate spring may not be the best answer. First off it will make the car a handful to drive on the street
if boost really comes on hard, and dangerous on a wet road (not that it sees a lot of those though). Getting a simple bleed valve like those $25 ball
bleed vales sold on ebay will allow you to bleed boost pressure off the wastegate and easily achieve 20lb boost pressure. As a general rule you can
go 1.5* wastgate spring pressure before you encounter issue with boost spiking/stability.
If you want to get something really good, get an Apexi AVCR EBC. They learn your engines operation and have hookups to your TPS, tacho, and road
speed sensor. With that data it can work out what gear you are in, so you can then control what boost you want to run in what gear, and also control
the rate that boost ramps up from wastegate to max boost. It also allows you to stop wastegate creep and bring boost on earlier. This all helps you
to preserve your new tranny when launching the car with less power, maintain traction in 2nd, and then go full power in 3rd and above.

Thanks Ian words of wisdom as usual!! It certainly from what Troy said comes on boost quite early and hard and now pulls like a freight train all the
way to the limiter.

"14psi of boost. Car made 208.8hp at 5500rpm"
I went back through my diaries(1999!!!) to find some info on the heads and cam.
The heads flow 107cfm at .500" lift(about 17 at 25") on the inlet,
and 97 on the exhaust,(at 10").
Not quite as good as these,
but a much smaller port.
http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1181
The cam has 262@.050 with 108 lobe centre and 4 degrees advanced.
The cam is not small and has over .515 lift at the valve,
but the port size is quite limited.
It is interesting that it made nearly double the power at the wheels, than it did normally aspirated.
I guess 14psi is nearly one atmosphere,
so it all makes sense!

Thanks ian, there is a autronic boost controller in the car but not sure on the operation. Will look into what you said later on but for now i will
enjoy driving it for a while i think. Thanks mick for the comments, i took the car for a quick spin yesterday arvo and it drives heaps better, still a
bit ruff when its cold but it warms up pretty quick. I love the way the boost comes on so early, makes it interesting to drive through the windy back
streets near my place but thats part of the fun!!!

Cool that you finally have it running well. Sorry for my ignorance but shouldn't it be running a lot more than that. I read about the leaking
wastegate etc but with that sized motor and 13psi boost I would expect a lot more. How much more do you think it has in it?
Not putting the project down, I you have got more passion than most of us with were this car has been through.
I would've given up!

No... no more than that with the cylinder heads it has.
Capacity does not mean power unless the air can get in and back out.
That is a very fast car.(102mph with only 166hp..now 208.8!)
Dont be fooled by internet numbers.

dyno some time after warwick to get more boost and see how it goes but its a bit of a unknown on what it will make with the volksy heads it has but
would like to try for 250hp with 20psi.
