Nope, and it doesnt usually get hot enough to properly cure heat proof paint anyway.

the fan shroud doesn't get very hot at all, so any spray paint should do there. even the tinware over the cylinders shouldn't get anywhere near
exhaust pipe temperatures..
the rear tinware [rear of the car] gets the hotest with all the hot air from the engine plus the exhaust heat...
I've always used high temp paint on that with no problems...
the main problem i have is from spraying foaming degreaser on the tinware and engine bay very often....
this eventually discolors or dulls the paint or can even peel off the paint...
this is the first time i have used EPOXY Killrust paint...
its the glossyest spray can paint I have used... it does take up to 6 hours to dry though.. and You can paint over it after 16 hours..
or You can use halogen work lamps to help dry it faster... lol
cheers

the epoxy paint takes up to 6 hours to dry in warm dry air..
an hour approx with halogen lamp sitting on top of it...lol
I used halogen work lamps to dry the tinware so I could do other things.. and it did work... as it was raining on & off so the air was
humid....
But
I didn't really do anything until today... apart from fitting the new oil cooler ... and wire brushing the paint off the rear tinware... the paint
cures pretty good on there.... as it does get really hot...
a real pain to get it off... even tried paint stripper..

I must be crazy painting all these things different colors..
I've found it would be much easiier to spray everything with matt black paint.... lol
its taking much too long to get it all together
and I still haven't decided what color to paint some tinware...
anyway got the fan shroud inlet manifold [single port] alternator all in place...
Must be great owning a BAJA backed beetle.....

both hands and wrists covered in blue bandaids today..
slipped a few spanners last night.... ouch..
I didn't realize that a heater outlet on the fan shroud could leave a long curved cut when Your wrist comes into contact with it at high speed.. and
hurts too..

I think I might have had a black out...
not forgetting it is gloss black..
Red was really getting to Me... [and to many others..lol]
anyway, I got it all together put the fan belt on and couldn't turn the fan???
Took the alternator clamp off and it turned OK...
pushing the alternator down on the stand with My hand the fan would go round and then drag at one spot...??
I thought that is easy to fix.. I cut a shim out of an aluminium can and slid it under... no difference..
Cut a shim out of some aluminium sheet.. still dragging..
Cut another and another and another.. and all was fine until the fan belt was fitted... [not tight enough either]...
so, I've had to take the fan and alternator out and I am getting the fan taken off the shaft of the alternator and will fit more shims and tighten
once back in position...
[was put on with a rattle gun and locktite]
The alternator backing plate and fan all look perfect when sitting on the ground or a bench and spinning ...
Fan looks 100% Perfect... so, I;m hoping the shims behind the fan will fix the problem...
This is a doghouse fan and shroud, so the fan has not been used before by Me... it looked new... but has been sitting on the end of a Generator for
years in My shed... lol

WELL,
everything hasn't gone smoothly as I had hoped..
inlet manifold was a pain to install as usual, especially the LHS rear screw which is just about impossible to place any spanner etc onto.
the the fan belt fitting and the fan hitting the housing...
Here is a pic of before I fitted the fanbelt and found a problem..
I have lifted the fan housing up onto pieces of wood and have taken the alternator and backing plate and fan out.
to get the Fan holding Nut undone so I can fit more shims...
so, I'm fitting the alternator back in with the fan nut loose, so I can fit the required shims to stop the fan hitting the housing.
Fingers Crossed..

Well back on the road yesterday..
had to fit a lot of shims behind the alternator fan to stop it rubbing... I also used an aluminium shim under the alternator .
and after not seeing that the coil wasn't connevted.. lol
it went great, excepting it wouldn't idle...
I didn't have much fuel so I drive straight to a service stn and filled with 98 octane... now idles and goes great...
back to normal....
Cold weather here today.. be able to use the Heater today.. lol

I knew I'd seen an engine bay like his along time ago.
Make that a real long, looooooong long time ago......

Actually in all fairness my parents would have bought it for me.
An article on Powedercoating, some black early bug has a similar colour scheme engine bay.

Maybe I should have run a doghouse oil cooler all along..
BUT.. I would still have a red engine lol..

naturally Yes..
Joel,
I've never seen that engine but have most old Aussie VW magazines .. as they weren't printed at regular intervals
like monthly etc it was just luck finding them.
I did paint My inlet manifold yellow the first time..
but the paint burnt off at the heatriser flanges... lol
I suppose If I had spent money on powder coating, It would still be the same..
Love the farmers feet... lol

The VW power mags were always nice and reliable with their release dates if I remember correctly.
20 years ago seems like forever
It was the Volkswagen Australia mags that were all over the place and changing names all the time.
I still have boxes full of them, for when I feel all nostalgic.
The last VW engine I built I had the tinware powdercoated.
I'd always painted them up till then and was happy enough but after powdercoating I'd never go back to painted again.

Do You remember reading about the fellow who made His own alloy wheels?
it was in one of the old Aussie mags with a pic of the fellow and his vehicle with the home made wheels...on the cover..
it may have been a Kombi??
I have never heard of anyone making their own wheels before..
I think they were alloy centres.. and steel rims..??
I think the RTA etc would frown upon that... lol
and they weren't painted... lol

Now that is syncronicity.
Someone mentioned you need a clear decklid to show off the engine.
I remember the bug you're talking about, yellow with purple flames.
It had an engine lid with a window cut in to it.
Looked absolutely ghastly
