nice recovery, sucking up with the 'Sir'
Mate, I dont know how I'd cope with 2 projects on the go....well done and more power to you for attempting it! The rate of progress on yours shows
that you will indeed complete them both, and judging by your progree pics, they will be completed to a high standard, well done! Keep up the good
work mate!
I have a crusty old Liteace van that I am putting back together and making roadworthy, so that I can sell it and free up some work space for the
Notch....I really want to pull the body off so I can get stuck into the pan resto!! Most of my free time has been soaked up by the Liteace, but not
long now, and the Notch will be back in the firing line!! My estimate is that the Liteace will be gone by end of February.....hopefully, as longas I
find a buyer!!

I know mate, its a killer at this time of year for our family. My wife is a piano teacher and consequently, only works when school is
in.....Christmas holidays are the WORST for us!! With the expense of Christmas, and day to day living with 4 kids and a home to maintain, there just
isnt any money for the hobbies!! ....but school
goes back this week so we'll be back on track again soon.
We had a plasma TV, and a normal TV both blow up within days of each other in the two weeks before Christmas....then a couple of weeks ago our fridge
went on the blink, so we really havent had a great time
financially lately, but am confident we will have things sorted in the next 3 or 4 weeks and money can be put aside again for the Notch
project....woohoo!
Thanks for dropping by and leaving a note!
Catch ya

Oh, and I forgot to mention something you might be interested in Colonel.....we might be buying another VW in the next few months.....a beetle this
time though!!
Can't say too much at this stage, but it was bought new by a woman and was then passed on to her son when she died. He has used it daily for the
last 20 or so years to drive 10k's to work and back every day and he wants to sell it sometime this year. You would think that after having driven
it daily for so long, it would be a bit trashed, but it has been regularly maintained and the body is in what I would consider to be exceptional
condition for its age. i am quite excited about it really. I know I should just put the money into my Notch, but I think it is one of those cars,
that if I passed on it, I would deeply regret it afterwards. The owner has promised to contact me first before advertising it and has also mentioned
that he doesn't think it is worth anything, so I am expecting to get it for next to nothing!!!....fingers crossed!! Time will tell though!

HAHAHA....all good mate, no clogging goin on, just friends catching up!!
It is my belief that it looks like a 68 or 69. It has late style bumpers, no vents behind rear quarter windows, rounded hood and engine covers like a
late one, so I was thinking it must be around 68ish...where the early chick started putting on weight, but isn't quite a fat chick!

Thanks mate.....not sure bout the matching pair idea.....
My eldest son, Keith (14), is the driving force behind the possible purchase of this beetle.
He has firm ideas in his head as to what he would like it to look like. (I think his ideas are pretty cool by the way, so thats why I'm so excited
about another possible project)
If we do make the purchase, I might get him to join up here and he can enlighten us all on how to build a VW! Time will tell.
I'm actually just happy that he wants to go VW, instead of Commodore or Ricer for his first car....he's an individual and likes to stand apart from
the crowd, and for that I applaude him.
Go Keith!

Well, its been over a month without a post.....slack aren't I???
Have been real busy the last few weeks with work, family....etc.etc.....
So anyway, enough of the excuses, what have I been up to on the Notch? Well....not too much unfortunately apart from spending a little money on
it.
I purchased a nice engine cover/deck lid from Doctor (thanks Chris, you are a champion!!) My old lid was pretty rusty in the bottom corners, and
Doctor had one from the white Notch he purchased for spares.....very happy with that spend, it should save a lot of hassle when it comes time for
paint.
I also received a set of wheel trolleys, these were a birthday gift from my awesome wife, Beck.....they are like go-jax, but are a fixed style. These
consist of a trolley for each wheel of the car, supported by a castor on each corner of the trolley......this allows you to have the car up on all 4
trolleys and then you can move the car any which way you want to, fantastic for working in small areas!! Unfortunately, it is bucketing down with
rain at the moment, the first time inages, so I can't get any decent photos, but rest assured, I will post some photos as soon as weather allows.
Catch up soon guys,

Hi Paul,
Yeah I remember, you were into MK1 Cortinas. My bro just sold his MK1 2 door cortina last week. Was a very nice body and seam welded and ready to
race.
Bright looks great but I still like the classic colours like bronze, mango green, gold and the metallic brown that early porsche's came out in.
Beetle is going slow, atcually standstill as I am building ahouse at the moment and it is taking up all my room and time.
corohouse.blogspot.com
I think you should go metallic, not flat plastic solids if you go bright.

Heath, your memory is AMAZING!!! I can't believe you remember my ramblings about the Cortinas!! Well, I saw the light and took the VW plunge!
I have been checking out your house blog from time to time....looks like a real nice place mate, well done! We are planning on doing a bit of
renovation to our place and I expect that the Notch will come to a relative standstill for a while....but I hope not.
I like your thinking on the colours mate....in fact, I have been eyeing off a lot of VW sites checking out the Mango green cars.....tasty colour in my
opinion.
Still very undecided....but plenty of time to decide before its ready for paint.
Cheers,

Soooooo....after doing NOTHING for ages....and watching other people's thread progressing (yes Smiley, I mean YOU!! ),
I thought I best get out and do something over the last couple of days....so here's a few progress photos for all those playing at home.
Firstly, a photo of the wheel trolleys that my wife got for my birthday last month....four of these little beauties make spinning the car a breeze!!
My wife wanted to take all the kids out yesterday, so I thought...."I've got a couple of hours before she wants to go, I might just rip out the back
window"....yeh, like I put a lot of thought into that!!!
Here is the result.... DOH!!!!
I thought that mine was a standard rear screen....obviously I had the reasonably rare 1,000,000 piece screen!!
I'm pretty sure these were released by VW as a 'space saver screen' so you could keep a spare in a bag in the boot!
Anyone good at puzzles????
More soon....
Thanks for watching,
Scarab (aka: Paul)

After cleaning up all the broken glass etc. (what a pain!)
I decided that I'd done enough damage for one day
This was the end result,
Today's mission was to remove the engine. Suprisingly, considering I have never removed a VW engine, it was insanely EASY!!
My oldest son Keith was there for the action and we had it out and packed away in the garage in an hour....from go to whoa! Pretty happy with that!
So, here is the empty engine bay
And here is the engine tucked away in the garage....until it gets some attention down the track a little.
Pretty happy with the results this weekend.
Thanks for looking

YAY!!!
I've been hanging out for this day!
Good to see you're getting back into it mate!
Don't feel too bad about the screen. I managed to break a Superbug front windscreen when I was stripping the can. Broke as I was pulling it out even
though I had already cut the rubber off the outside. Don't know how a pulling it off.

HAHAHA.....cheers mate. If you've been hanging out for this day....you need to get out more!!
I was so happy to be working on it again, and wasn't even that annoyed about the screen. I mean I was upset a little, but just working on the Notch
again put me on a high.
It looks like I might have organised a replacement already, so it doesn't matter toooooo much I guess.
I was genuinely suprised at the ease of engine removal. I have pulled plenty of engines over the years, from Minis and Mk1 Cortinas, right through to
the big ones like you work on Smiley, Cat Dozers etc. and this would have to be the EASIEST by far. I could have left my son to do it on his own and
I think he would have been fine....in fact, he did do most of the removal of bolts etc. especially the ones underneath (he's a LOT smaller than me!
) I was just there to make sure it didn't fall
out and was kept on the jack for most of the descent.
Very happy with the results. We will possibly remove the hood lining tomorrow. I want to get it out in one piece. Despite it being ripped, I still
want to keep it to compare to a new one when the time comes.
Thanks for looking,
Scarab (aka: Paul)
