Ricer!!
I totally agree that the Subi/VW combination is awesome, but we don't all have that sort of cash unfortunately
Love the German look on bugs though too....very cool
I think my Notch will possibly have the looks, but wont be able to back it up with the performance....at least until the funds recover from the
body/chassis resto etc.

Well....another step forward finally.
I have been checking out my options lately on what to do with my rusty floor pans. As a lot of you will know, Type 3 pans don't exist is reproduced
form....well, until recently anyway.
Up until now, the only option was to use Karmann Ghia pans and modify them. Recently, Gerson announced that they were going to reproduce the Type 3
pans....finally someone is giving the Type 3 model run so love!!
Anyway, I went down the track of investigating how to get some of these over to Australia with the help of Elton from Splitparts. While I was waiting
on so pricing from him, Andrew (aka: Splitmeister here on AVD and the previous owner of my Notch) let me know of a pan that he had sitting at his
place that was pretty nice and offered it to me at a VERY reasonable price, considering it came with another Notch body on it, along with front and
rear suspension and brakes (and gearbox too of course).
Picked it up yesterday and I am VERY happry with the look of the pans so far, considering I have only had a very quick look at them....but I am sure
they are good, solid, useable pans, for a lot less than what I was getting prepared to pay for repro pans from overseas.
Anyway, the best way I guess is for me to show you some pics of the pans....
Here is an overall view of the entire floor assy.
The plan at the moment is to cut out these pans from the donor vehicle and weld them into my original chassis so that I retain the original chassis
number etc. Hope the plan works....I guess slow and steady will be the name of the game when cutting out and replacing. I am also planning on using
a couple of sections from the donor body to replace the small amount of rusted areas in my original.
Finally, here's a quick shot of my two Notches tucked away under my carport, along with a friends Beetle that I am cleaning up for him to sell. Its
a one family owner 69, and quite a tidy solid car....floor pans are immaculate!! If anyone is interested, feel free to PM me
Thanks for looking!

hahaha....actually, van still here so pathetic,
I haven't bothered doing anything with it, ive been on a VW high lately
I was going to buy the beetle, the guy offered it to me for a very good price, but I told him that it was actually worth more than what he offered it
to me for and I would help him clean it up and get the best price possible for him. I seem to be able to help others rather than getting my own stuff
sorted out for sale! I will get there eventually though.
My eldest was VERY keen for me to grab the beetle for him.....but I felt like I would be ripping off the guy if I bought it. I couldn't scrape up
any more cash for him, but thats OK. If we are meant to get a Beetle, one will come up for sale at the right time, when we have the
cash......hopefully

Good to see you're plodding along still Paul.
Looks like you've managed to pick up a good set of pans there.

hey guys...its been a while, how is everyone????
Just thought I'd update you with my progress (yeh, I know its slow, but anything that is classed as moving forward can be called progress...right???)
Anyway, got up early Saturday morning all enthusiastic, and got stuck into a bit of Notch chopping!!
The last couple of weekends I have spent installing roller doors across the front of my carport, and now that it is all secure, I feel a bit more at
ease with getting stuck into the car and not having parts and tools on display for the neighbourhood to see.
Anyway....here's a few shots from the morniings work. My son Keith was real keen and features in a couple of the photos..
Here is the Notch that I bought for the floor pans. It was pretty rusty....the sills were full of rust and bog, but that doesnt matter as I am only
using sections of the body to repair the small amount of rust in my body....
Just for fun, Keith and I thought we'd see what it would look like turned into a convertible.....
My boy can't help himself!!
And rockin' some 13" Cosmics
And here is the pan I am planning on using instead of my rusted out one....nice and clean so far, pretty happy with it.
....and of course, Keith trying it out. If it had an engine he would have wanted to go for a blast around the block!!
Hopefully might have some more to show you all soon!
Thanks for watching,

Good work. Really getting stuck into it now, hey. Kinda sad to see one notch getting the chop, but it's obviously for the greater good.
I remember years ago seeing a web site dedicated to someone's beetle resto and the guy drove around the block on the pan only - just seats and
running gear, no body. I think he had to make some contraption in place of the fuel tank. It looked pretty funny.

hahaha....yeh, my son got the idea from a friend of mine on Facebook.
He's just finished a pan resto in the States and posted a video of him driving the bare pan up and down his street.
Looks like it would be heaps of fun!!
By the way....I really feel there would have been too much rust in the donor Notch for it to come back to the road (although I have seen worse being
restored on some UK VW sites), not saying it would be impossible, but not really worth it in the end. It has given its life to save another.

find it to remove the body from the pan? as I think that could be on the agenda for next weekend Tasmanian weather permitting

real easy mate..... basically a row of bolts round the outside, a couple over the front beam and a couple under the rear seat.
was pretty awkward with just me and a 14 year old boy....maybe get a couple of mates to help you....its not real heavy, just awkward.
Good luck!

well, its been a while, guess its time for an update
went back to stripping out the donor pan and pulled the front and rear ends out ready to strip the pan.
Amazing the amount of camber you can get when you disconnect the spring plates!
Here's the front end still attached:
....and then rolled clear of the pan:
....and one last one of my son....I caught him sleeping under the pan (well, I thought he was sleeping....he was definitely suprised when I
photographed him! Check out his face!! )
Thanks for looking!

Is your notch going to be running that much camber once it's all back together? Nice and slammed.

Thanks for the interest Smiley!
Any progress is good progress....right??
I would love to run that much camber....but would be hard to get past the Police down here if it was that low!
The plan is for moderate lowering (at this stage....until I get addicted to LOW )
Scarab (aka: Paul)
PS: was a shame to see the fron of your car cracked on the wildlife mate....but I guess its built to be driven right? Stuff like that happens
unfortunately.

Yeah. It'll be repaired, but only after I finish bracing the front bar and add a skid plate for future protection.
