Top Gear rant
I love Top Gear but Richard Hammond is an idiot! Just watched him destroy a beetle to prove his precious Porsche is better. It costs 200 times more of
course it's better!
I just wish he/Top Gear would give the bug a bit more respect for what it is and how connected it is to his beloved Porsche..

I can understand why they hate the Beetle. I think it's because they're old enough to remember them being sold as new cars in the late 1970s. In
1978, as a new car, the Beetle must have seemed loud, slow and very old-fashioned compared to something like a Mk2 Escort.
Beetles make sense now as a classic car for enthusiasts, but in the 1970s they were just outdated. I wasn't born at the time, but I would think of it
in a similar way to the Niki 650 (although obviously not as bad). When you look at a Niki 650 being sold in Australia in the early 1990s, it was an
absolutely terrible car. But, as a Fiat 126 in 1972, it would have been much more acceptable.

The aircooled Skodas (S100) now theres a terrible car worthy of terminal velocity by freefall, it pretty much buried the brand until now they are
trying to ressurrect thier name.
I remember my Aunty had one my Dad was forever trying to keep it running. I dont remember even riding in it, only it being always in the garage. I'm
not sure it ever ran at all.

I agree, if they are true motoring people how can they go past the amount of Beetles that sold, no other
make with the same shape goes even close!
Have seen this clip also, I like the line up from Beetle to the latest model Porsche, I wonder who would
win if they dropped a 911 alongside a Beetle, 911 more streamlined?

I didn't know that this show was still on telly?

That show lost it and became to scripted along time ago.
I guess one thing is the Bug they dropped was just one of those late South Efrican Mutant Beetles with the early swing axle/link pin wide 5 floor
pan.
Given a quick red paintjob over the top of everything so it looked like the same bug

What a wicked waste!
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

sometimes they say idiotic things....
especially Jeremy Clarkson
its just scripted...
although James May doesn't seem to be as bad...
the other two really can be just stupid at times...
the driving by famous people in a moderately priced car is the only Good part most of the time...
The show is still on Foxtel... probably old shows..
I see James and Richard have their own shows now...

If you are upset about the top gear guys destroying 1 beetle.
DON'T go and see the new James Bond flick.
It looks as though they destroyed a train load of new beetles.
Literally.

I like the show and the presenters, but the premise of that segment was a stretch at best.
Not to defend them, but how many bugs have we seen cut up and sent to scrap? And how many have been at our own hands? I've personally sliced up one -
the body was riddled with rust and dodgy repairs - but a few thousand in welding may have kept it alive. Would anyone do that for a 73 super? Or the
South African one they dropped on top gear?
As long as they don't drop mine, or develop a taste for it like they did with pianos on Marinas, I'm good.
