Type 3 Front Seat Adjuster Cams

Am after the "cams" for the drivers/passengers front seats - these are the cams that adjust the back of the seat to be moved up or laid back - see pic

Thanks
Bert

Cheers Dave, wasn't sure if they could be swapped and couldn't see they couldn't be ...... found someone who may have a good set they just have to remove the seat from the wreck, check them and get the cams off it.

Need the passenger seat ones in for the Mrs who has a shot back and needs seat upright, I manage with drivers as it currently is but would like it more upright as my back shot also ...... although after driving it from Nowra to Brisbane and feeling stiff and sore the next morning was the best the back adn legs have felt for years.

If you do change make sure you lube good with some molly grease or similar clean all the old gunk off first

they are held on with roll pins through the shaft the cams are cast alloy and can be fragile so take care

may be yr seats need re padding as well

Thanks Dave, had seen the roll pins prior to removing the seats = very small and expect they'll be fun to get out so will treat with extreme care.

Seats getting a bit thin on padding but still quite comfortable & something to look at down the track - 1st thing is deciding if to remove OTT exhaust and replacing with Vintage Speed as you had mentioned in my thread in the Type3 section

Scored a passenger seat with what looked like good cams but when removed the shaft where it goes through the seatbase are worn ...... disappointed yeah but found someone doing 3D printing and willling to take it on as a project seeing these things can't be found as replacement parts.

Anyone with a Type 3 and looking for seat adjuster cams stay tuned as may have a contact for you once we get a test cam made and tested they will become available (I'm purely the tester on these and having to pay for them for myself) the guy doing them will decide final price and they will be 3D Printed in Steel medium.

Also decided to move from the TriMill Stainless Steel Over The Top exhaust and so it is up for sale - still on the fastback and will post this in the Parts For Sale Section - location is Brisbane North Side if anyone looking for a good condition system.

Contact advised printed in steel which is a steel matrix bond together with bronze. Rough (very rough) indication of price is $150.00 a pair - may change if quantity ordered ...... I felt this was fair as the ones in the pic below were offered up for sale @ US $160 and went very quickly.

Have also provided him with this picture of unpainted cams which has been useful for him to refine what he has put together from one of my cams.

How have you come up with the design file? Are they doing this?

I have once bought SS metal parts from http://www.shapeways.com/  May be worth looking at too?

Cruiser, I've no idea how the contact is putting the 3D drawings together ....... I've just supplied him with a cam so he can put his 3D together and confirmed some measurments + the above picture which gives him a clearer view as the cams I have are all painted black and varios level of wear.

I'm his test pilot on these and so once he is satisfied with the design and measurements, he's doing/getting a plastic print done to check all measurements against what he has and then will return to me so I can do a fit up and check operation before we go down the "metal" print route as we want to be sure they are as true as possible and will work.

Thanks for that link.

Sounds like you are on the right track with testing out a plastic one first.

Maybe they could be a bit cheaper than $150 pr if you get 5-10 pairs and sell the extras too?

No worries Terry, will keep people posted.

Cruiser, bulk order I expect will be offered but by contact who will set price and time line to order price will be determined by this and other relavant things associated with supply. I'm paying my way on this to get it done including the test unit in plastic is @ my expense to make sure they work ..... others will benefit by means of all the work being done and a unavailable part being offered.

Things have progressed a bit on the hunt for these NLA parts - see this thread http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=111806

Any type 3 owners out there with front seats that they can't adjust the incline of the backrest then you may be interested in a set (1 per seat of right and left cam).

Have been conversing with nils and this update provided -

Owing to things happening we'd like to go to production at the end of this week (Friday 13th January 2017) for these seat cams - minimum order of 10 seats (pairs/sets of 1 left and 1 right) required by the CNC Milling company to make it happen.

We have on AussieVeeDubbers interested parties Nils (nilza) - 1 seat, KahunaKombi/Fossil (me) - 1 seat, Wombatadventures - 2 seats, Cruiser - 1 seat, Tomaselli - 1 seat, bus914 - 1 seat. Couple of other not committed people yet but following them up.

To process payment and delivery details please PM or email nils for how he wants you to pay.

PRICE - $165 AU per seat + $12-20 AU total postage depending on location

On the Samba we have KTPhil - 1 seat, hem1tp - 1 seat & Clatter - 1 seat.

Will continue to monitor this thread and if you can confirm you've paid that'd great.

Ok so time for an update.

1st order for 10 seats (1 right and 1 left cam) was placed and ETA is 24th January ....... fully committed to SO for any one interested in the 2nd order let Nils or me know = PM or post.

Price from a CNC Milling mob came in late & was more in line with what was expected SO price is now $100 per seat + postage (I believe this is still $12.20 but location may alter it). All pricing is controlled by Nils and will depend on exchange rates, fees and delivery costs) but as you can see a considerable saving on initial price. :D:starhit::tu:

Got my order of new CNC'd 6061 Al seat cams & with the help of my friend John (retired Fitter/Turner/Boiler Maker) Friday was fit up day.

Getting seat out and apart was easy enough to reveal the condition of the original cams -

Right one well and truely knackered >

Left one not in great shape either >

Showed how people didn't know how to adjust seat incline in the first place and 101 rule release pressure on the back rest DON'T try to assist with your weight.

Now wonder if the leaver releasing the backrest will work better and the function will now be smoothly/as like new.

A better picture of the Cams >

Without going into the fine detail, there was some damage on the left side of the seat where the cam is housed so this had to be repaired by a bit of metal beating and filing. The damage and resultant change of profile made just enough difference across the width of the seat to mean the right cam needed a little filing on the radii on the 2nd & 3rd steps/lugs - this took a few fits then remove of the shaft with cams until we were satisfied a smoothly transition through the full range of adjustment was happening :)

To the final fit and they look this -

Right Cam (before MolyGrease)

Left Cam (before MolyGrease)

Once the MolyGrease was applied and a few movements through the range we were happy as to how smooth it was and so put back in Paddy - test seating = weird feeling the backrest at the shoulder blades when before it was only at the base of the spine ;)

As for the access to the back seat ...... ..... no more fighting to get it to move  ....... smooth as the day out of the factory :D

Taken some time to get to this but been worth it to have a NLA part made up and copies being sent to the USA for other Type3 owners as well as to some in Australia.

BIG thanks to Nils for taking this on and delivering
