1959 Beetle Engine Question...
My '59 bug came with a 1600 Motor does it mean this motor will suit all alternators for 60s model ?
Originally it came with a 1100 Motor and now it's a 1600...
Did VW ever produce 1600 Motor for the 59 model ?
I am looking to fit a Alternator kit for a 60s model into this beetle..
Please help
Thanks!

Do you mean generator ???? As alternators were only fitted to 70's models.
59 models only had 36hp (1100) motors fitted. These motors had 6volt generators.
Does your car now run 12volt electrics ? I should be if it is a 1600cc.

hi,
It's a 1600 motor running 12 Volt. I mean new Alternators from Bosch, I believe the kit will only fit on 60s model and 70s model engine ... will my
1600 motor work with the bosch alternator ? Since I am not sure if my 59 has its original motor or not, I assume to you response, it is fitted with a
60s engine and it will fit the bosch kit
Please let me know!
Cheers~

Yes you can fit an alternator to the 1600 motor. You will need to replace the stand it sits on with an alternator stand (where the oil goes in) as the
alternator is larger in diameter than the generator .

I would try one of the forum sponsors.
All you will need is the stand and the alternator, you can use the pulley, fan and backing plate from your 12 v generator.
Why do you want to have an alternator?
