tyres hitting coils
ive changed the disks on my 71 super and the tyres are rubing on coil springs. are 195/60/15's to big? are the disks wrong? what's going on
here!:cry

the offset is wrong mate to fix this you ether have to change to maxx springs for the extra clearance or use a different wheels
|

were the tyres touching the strut before you replaced the disc's or have you replaced the tyres also?

i replaced the tyres aswell, didnt notice if it was rubbing before, still had the guards on then, is there a difference in 71 and 72 disks? i might of
stuffed up if there is.
thanks for the offer ruckus, but ill be sticking to 65 or lower. it had 80 risers on it when i baught it and looked a bit like a 4WD

Shouldn't be any difference with the disc's that would change the offset. You did put the inner wheel bearing in didn't you? Of course you did? Put
the 195's on the rear and get yourself some 165's or smaller for the front. good luck!

i didnt put the bearing in the first time they went back on, and wondered why they wouldnt sit right:duh bearings are deffinatly in, changeing the
tyres to the back sounds like a good idea. does anyone know if brm's have a different offset to stockies? |

cant be certain but i would be amazed if they were the same.
Supers are a bitch at the best of times to get wheels to fit.
Generally Empi 8's arfe about the only off the shelf mag that fits.
That said i am running 195's 15's on a 75 super at the moment but that is a 2 bolt rackand pinion beetle not a 3 bolt box.
And my 6" chromes are sticking too wide by a fraction. (getting more struts and wheels soon)
Have to say, i cant say I have seen supers running BRMs, let alone with 195's before. Both are readily available, so the must be a reason why

The original tyre sizes were 155 SR x 15" - 165 SR x 15" and optional [in the UK] was 175/70 SR 15"
You can also go to 135 x 15 or 145 x 15 for the narrow front wheel look...??
Remembering that most of the braking is done with the front tyres..... [on all cars]

You can purchase new adjustable front struts, these have smaller diameter springs which will clear the tyre you have fitted.

I run 195/60r15 on teh front of the L bug with no problem. They do come close to the guards ans sometimes do catch a little. but only under full
compression. I went and got some 6 inch rims made with a slightly better offset and now they are fine.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Yep thats what it costs.... or less
all new with smaller diameter coil springs so no tyre rubbing .... and ride height fully adjustable ... price the cost of new struts fitted and see
what you come up with.
Or you could rebuild your wheels and change the off set and a similar cost if they are steel wheels, bad luck if you have mags...............

was the wrong rims off a type 3 i vaguely recall
