HELP! taillights not working!!!

dont u hate wen u try to fix something u dont really need to fix and u brake soemthing else!

ok today i thuoght id adjust the taillight bulbs on my sisters 60 bug coz one was brighter than the other. just twisted one bulb and back to equal brightness, while i was at it i replaced the blown licence plate light too.

final check, all the lights worked, blinkers too, then put the lenses back on, and everything stopped working after that, no taillights, no blinkers, no licence light, wen i put the headlighst on only the headlights came on, but the brakes lighst work.

i checked the fuses, theyre all fine. wat could it be?

make sure all the wires are still plugged in on the left hand side in the engine bay behind the cover there, you might have knocked out the earth

Thinking out loud here, do the brake lights have a different earth point to the rest of the lights?

It can only be something you bumped when putting the lights back together...if the fuses are OK, as you said.

Pull one lense off first, check behind the plate, look for things loose, see how it all fits back together. Any pinched wires anywhere when you re-install it? While its all apart, check the lights before you put it back together. Then, attack the other one.

See if you can get it narrowed down to maybe one side that might be the culprit...although that may not work, as indicators work on seperate wiring....

Basically pull it all apart again and retrace your steps, get the lights working without the lense, etc...then slowly put it all back.

Doesn't sound good when you say that, there is obviously a wiring problem right there.

Remove both lenses and plates and restart. Get the lights working, then check all the connections, earth's, etc. Maybe keep the lights on and start to re-install, and stop when you find a problem, then reverse and fix that issue.

If fuses are intact still, it has to be down to connections at the back.

Take the bulbs out one at a time, and see if any come back on. One of the bulbs may have blown that is knocking the others out.

It looks like all parking lights, tail lights come from the same place, which is the 'parking light' position on the headlight switch.
When you're in the parking light position, does your speedo light up? do your front parking lights work?

if they don't then maybe it's the headlight switch... there are 2 fuses one for each side but they all get power from the headlight switch. I hope i didn't get it wrong!

speeding is bad!

its all in the earthing point sam.
Just loosen it off a bit, move the wire around a little until it works again then tighten it back down.
