Exhausts - beetle
Will a standard exhaust off an early (60) beetle, fit onto a later (69) beetle?
My 69 bug lost a tailpipe last night and I am looking into repairs this week. If they tell me that they can't fix it, and it needs a new system, I
was wondering if the muffler off my dead 60 will fit?
60 is a 1200, 69 is a 1500....I haven't looked yet....and exhausts are just pipey things to me, so I wouldn't know....
Hmmm, what about an exhaust off a 1600? Would it fit?

measure the distance between the exhaust outlets (that go into the muffler) and see if it matches the spare exhaust you have, someone else on here
should be able to tell you what motors are interchangable with mufflers and wich are not

The two different motors require different I.D. exhaust tubing to run properly, as the exhaust valves are larger on the 1500 and it has more
displacement.
If it fits heater tubes will fit onto the muffler, which I dont think they do?? It wont run all that great.

I will tell you a story about Beetle tailpipes. Fleur was driving the beetle on the Eastern Freeway into the city to go to work one morning and one of
the tailpipes fell out!!!!!
It hit the windscreen of an XD behind her. The driver was a fairly green P plater and he was a bit shaken by it. Anyway I got a windscreen mob to
chuck a new screen in it for him and he was stoked. He said it was the best part of his car now.
Cost me $135, but compared to how much it could have cost if it had of hit a prestige car on say the bonnet, windscreen and roof !!!

Bugger! Luckily we had nothing behind us. Actually, about 5 k's behind was an old Vintage Car, pretty happy that I didn't take his windscreen out!
That could have cost a fortune....

The 1200 (40 hp) muffler wont fit 1500 or 1600 motors. The later motors are wider between the exhaust ports.
