new idea for plumbing in a notch
just wondering, has anyone ever attempted to run a rad at the BACK of a notch when doing a watercooled conversion? surely if you fitted a radiator to
the old air outlet from the aircooling (from the guards, where there is the big hole in the inner back panel), powered it wih a couple of thermo fans
and shrouded it so that the air escaped out the bottom/back (so that air coming from under the car into the engine bay didnt interfere with flow) you
could get a prety effective stealth cooling system?
has anyone tred anything like this before?

Sounds good in theory but I wonder if you would get enough airflow to keep a radiator cool.
The front of a notch lends itself more to having a radiator mounted in the front as it looks more like a normal sedan.
But theres always the problem of getting the water from the front to the back.
Give it a go someone has always gotta be the first.

I was thinking maybe the air would just run straight over at the rear.
Might have to have a scoop on the rear engine lid to catch the air.

Mount the element downhill, suspended under the bootlid?
Reduces the flexi-hoses and general plumbing....

You could always run one each side...slightly smaller more compact with one thermo fan behind each. I am sure 996 porsches run one each side at the
front.

try it out myself but dad wouldnt let me hack his notch

liek your idea boof, i think one of the other guys did that with a bay kombi and worked real well for him.
i recon it hasto be stealth in a t3, dont like the idea of hacking the front of one unnecessarily.

A mate of mine has a notch. afew guys have warned him to be careful of it overheating coz the stock fins don't get enough air flow. I reckon the
fins in the guards ala square/fasty is the go. Or, put two rads next to the gearbox and duct from under the car. Baja wes has done this to good
effect.

there is a guy who did that with a rotary conversion in a type 3, didnt work that great, and he ended up putting it in the front. i dont know why
people dont like putting the radiator up front. its not that hard, and you can make it look stealthy pretty easily. |

Theres a bloke up her in Bris with a leyland V8 in his bay, and he has 2 rads mounted in the sides, had a lot of trouble keeping it cool initially!
Theres also heaps more room in the bay! I think its achievable with some hacking and chopping but you dont have much width to play with!?
I dont like the idea of clutering up the rear boot with a rad, and the heat retention would be a worry!!
