Fit engine seal without removing engine?
My bug doesn't have an engine seal (not my fault! It wasn't there when I bought the car a few months ago). I wasn't worried about it in winter
but the weather is getting warmer now, so I really should put a seal in.
Is it possible to fit an engine seal without removing the engine? Is it hard to do?
This is for a '59 bug with a 1600 motor. Thanks!

I think he is referring to the rubber that goes around the engine base. Yes you can fit it without removing the engine. Just remove the tin. Removing
the tin over the pistons will require removing the fan, generator and manifold though

Yes mate you can do it. as Karman said its easy, although it takes some time. Just remove the tin and fan. When I did it I had the cabies off as well,
so it was pretty easy to get into. If you have a good rubber you can just thread it through.

Thanks guys. Sounds like an all-day job for a slow worker like me, but do-able.
