door cards,vynal,shallow staples..
Right, got orginal pair of t3 door cards and want to remount them. Easy eh. Want to do it like it was from the factory with shallow staples to suit
depth of modern mdf but only thing that seems commercially avaliable, at bunnings etc, are to deep. Anyone know of alternatives?
Also glue - solvent based ruins the vynal, what's a good alternative? Craft glues are just shite and don't work. Tired or trial and error now,
anyone got this down pat??

i did mine...and what we did was this...
spray adhesive (strong hold) from bunnings...to spray on the front. Then wipe the fron down to stop and wrinkles....
Pull round the back nice and tight...
Then to be really sure...I used a hot glue gun around the edges on the back...between edge fo the board and the holes marked out.
And finally use the staple gun...we got ours from a craft shop (they had the shallow staples...but not 100% sure where...will check with person who
bought it at the time)
When its all done and died...then u trim it up nicely...and use the spray adhesive again to keep the edges nice and neat..and down...
It became a little bit of work, but is well worth it. And it was based on what i could see was done at the factory.

ahh, craft shop, I have been wondering about the shallow staples
too, thanks beb how did you attach the little metal clip things?

Simon,
The staples you want are 5/32". You'll need to use a staple gun, but MDF will not take the staples. You'll need to use masonite, just like VW did.
Best glue is a brush on upholstery/trimming adhesive, but for the amount you need, you may as well buy some Selleys Gel Grip from Bunnings. Gel grip
will hold and it's easy to use 'cos it's a gel and not a liquid.
If you've got a staple gun I'll send you a few hundred of the correct staples.

Thanks Brad for that offer, I'll have a look up here. Yeah did buy semi pro stapler from Bunnings for this job so hope these lit'luns fit it.
