you will need an early rear apron to go with the engine lid
you would need to fabricate bumper brackets to fit early bumpers(front brackets on an early go through the apron ,not the guards)

EMPI makes the bumper brackets to go from early bumpers to late cars....
You could fabricate Your own...
Nothing is impossible...

Towel rail bumpers look great on Early beetles....
Here is a German 1200 standard 1967 Beetle.... photo

That is the same style of lid??...just no vents?? 1500???

Akean put a 60's lid on his 1302 super.
Bit of work but looked good.

Dont the very late bumper brackets with the rubber tops fit both early and late bumpers.
These came out on 75L and 76 standard bugs.

I will take a pic of the ones i have - show you what i mean

This type

I have a couple spare i think

No they are just standard 68-76 bumper brackets with holes cut in them....
The early bumper brackets [irons] were only about 35mm wide so those large ones won't go thru the small early holes in the body & guards....
The brackets You buy have the large bracket behind the body with the small bracket coming thru the opening in the body....
I'm not sure what has to done to fit the early long engine deck lids...
Nothing is impossible... just very difficult sometimes...
I've seen many of them done....

Here is a photo of 1969 Beetle with early deck lid...
no bumpers though...
I think You would have to make up some bumper brackets and the bumper would be further away from the body to allow the early deck lid open....

I will check

Leave as is and fits late

Or you take the rubber bit off and they fit early.

Will check and get back

Sorry,
Yes You can use those brackets with a late body/guards
You would just have to make something on the ends of them to fit onto the early bumpers....
I was thinking You were using early guards....
The empi ones just look like there is a piece welded to the end of those late bumper brackets....
to fit the early bumpers.....
wouldn't be too difficult...
so long as you don't have to take the bumper off to check the oil.... :D:D
