advice on heater boxs

hey guys ,is there anything special inside the heater box or is it basically a bit of tube attached to the exhaustwith a 'y' shapped fitting which attaches to the shroud

No its special

I will try and find a cross section

The best way to think about it is a J tube with heat transfering large washers welded to it then encased in a shroud
It is actually a lot heavier construction than that inside

It is designed to have a VERY large surface area to transfer the heat to air while not effecting (affecting(sp???) - never can work it out) the exhaust flow

Aren't the type 3 ones internally-finned Aluminium (i know this is right), with the type 1 one's just a fairly simple pipe through the box? Or have I been mis-informed...
