IRS CONVERSION

I am building a buggy on a 68 pan and I want to convert my swing axle rear end to an IRS rear end. How difficult is it and what is involved. Also does any body know where I can buy a reconditioned gearbox to suit.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

You will need all the components from a Super beetle rear suspension:
gearbox, complete trailing arm assemblies, spring plates, torsion bars, driveshafts with CVs.

You will need to source pivot points: (either cut them from a late-model Type 3 subframe or buy aftermarket) and install them on your chassis. Not for the faint-hearted; need to cut into the side of the chassis horns and accuratley weld the pivot points in place, preferably using a jig that you have constructed/patterened from another IRS chassis.

Minor re-shaping (with a hammer!) of chassis horns is also required for CV joint clearance

Its much easier to use a factory IRS pan
