What's it cost to go racing?

Here is just a list of costs out of the pocket to run at the Jamboree.
These are not any wear and tear costs to the race car nor tow car, or trailer.
Just the days expenses.

Entry $150 (Australian Nationals is $350 this year!)
Tow car fuel $80
Race car fuel $60
Race car oil $60
Food : 4 meals(lunch and dinner) $40.
Muffins: $30
Drinks other than water from the tap $15

I am a budget racer.
Some guys hire trailers, tow vehicles, tents for shade,
and dirty girls.

Earlier this year I won and event for the first time in 12 years.
The prize money was....$400...nearly broke even on that one!
Better than a kick up the Kyber!
Why do we do it?

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/dave.jpg

Because it is there.

Average hillclimb cost:

Entry=$100-$140
Fuel for towcar= $80-$280 ($280 for grafton)
Fuel for race car= $40
Accommodation= $150/night
Food= $50/day
Workshop supplies!=$20

So anywhere from $500 to $1000 per race weekend

Multiple this by 10 weekends......................$5000-$10,000 per year!! This doesn't including CAMS lic fees, club membership, tyres ($1200), maintenance and all the other associated costs like rego, insurance etc etc etc

So about $20,000/yr before tax income to play in hillclimb as a minimum.

I've been racing for about 10 complete years................ SHIT $200,000 out the window :jesus (not including the cost of building the car !)

...and for those of us that are married, add on the make-up gift or weekend away to compensate for the time 'wasted' (such a harsh word) playing with racing cars.

Dont forget the occasion breakage.
Craig, what did your recent meeting with the wall cost to repair ?

I watched my Father and Brother race Class 1 offshore powerboats for 3 seasons. Definately a rich mans sport, and they are no more ! The race meet they did actually win, the QOPC President decided to raffle the prizes, so there was no prize money just a shitty tacky trophy.

My father taught me early, that if you want to make a small futune in motorposrt you start with a large one... ha. In saying that it is possible to go and race at club level (and some forms of state motorsport) and be competitive on a relative low budget. You dont need the best of everything to go out and have fun.. It all depends on how serious you want to get. I found out form 10 years of racing on dirt its not always the persons with the biggest budget that always its usually the person with the biggest balls.

Costs for an average club motorkhana/khanacross...

entry fee - $60 (that's an expensive one)
fuel to drive there and back as well as race - $30
food and drinks - $10
race license - $48 (per year)
Club fees - $60 (per year)

That's about $700 a year for 6 or seven events give or take a few dollars for wheel alignments and such. I have no tow car and no trailer, so you have to drive a little more carefully. I probably change my oil a little more regularly than most and the air filter often needs a clean after a dusty day. But even with some small breakages it's very, very cheap. You could do it cheaper too. I could take my own food/drink and muffins. I guess that would drop the price a bit. mmmm, muffins. lol

this is my idea for tight arse racing.

A good day racing for anyone to enjoy is the one with the least amount of fuss.
picton go kart corperate day.
for a full day of racing,
this includes coffe ,tea and bickies in the morning on arrival.
water and soft drink supplied all day.
catered lunch
and you race from around 10 am until 4 or 5pm all for $275 each person.
the look on there faces when you have finished your day and completely fucked up there's by giving them back hunk's of metal that use to look like go karts.
PRICELESS.
why ruin your own kart with mates and customers that can't drive.
