Fitting window scrapers??
Does anyone have any trouble fitting inner and outer scrapers to a beetle? I have new ones but seem to break the little clips when trying to install.
Are there better quality scrapers out there or is it just a mongrel fiddly job??

early or late??? if its early and your outer chrome is good to reasonable drill out the rivets and just use the new rubber on your old chrome ,then
after you have reassembled it all , a bit of grease on the clips ,put it close to where it needs to go then stick your hand in the door between the
outer skin and the inner section that it clips into and feel for the clips ,guide the thru and push home ,,,,inner scrapers -use the og wire as it is
shaped better and be certain to have the scraper attached at the front hole before you put the outer in place,also check the wire doesn't interfere
with the rear bailey channel .,just take your time and have a few beers as you go

u need to get some long nose pliers and gently squeeze the clip as it fit in the hole on the outher edge of the door
yes its a fiddle job and takes time dont rush it
what year is yr car and model

However, If you have bought some that are soft alloy, you will find it is nearly impossible to not break the clips.. I like the idea of re-drilling
rubber onto old metal.. In fact I have a pair of soft alloy ones recently fitted and they look shite.. I found another aftermarket set which are much
harder alloy and I'm going to replace with these.. If that fails I am going to find an og set and clean them up then re-fit rubber..

Trust me I have had more than a few beers trying to get these in. I agree that the aftermarket are scrapers with the soft alloy are crap and a
complete waste of time and dosh. I will use the old original ones and fit the new rubbers as suggested. Now what is the correct order - outer scraper
with the trim first, then quarter window, then inner, then window glass????
Help needed. Last thing to do before rego.

What year is yr car again ???
If you havea pre 67 then find some Stainless trim to use and fit the rubber to wont bend as easy

Worst job to do on a beetle....*****
all the late ones i found have the very soft aluminium
trim which bends if You look hard at it... lol
I wrecked one when putting mine in... lol
I did keep the original ones... I never thought of just using the new rubbers...
all My clips broke off...
so I used contact cement... now they won't come off...
so long as You let the contact nearly dry on both surfaces before pushing them together...

Absolutely - the worst job of the whole resto. Looks like the inside scraper rubber can be glued in no problem but the outer with the soft aluminium
trim has a metal backing strip on the inside of the rubber. I dont know if contact would do the job with this one? (metal to metal)

I ended up using some auto body moulding double sided tape from Cheap & Nasty Auto to fix the inner and outer scrapers to the doors. Worked a
treat - sticks like shit to a blanket that stuff. Removed all of the poxy metal clips first.
