How do you fix a whirring speedo??
Speedo in the Beetle has started to whir badly. Is there a simple fix for this?

Cable comes as a one piece unit and is very easy to fit.

this is usually caused by the inner cable snapping strand by strand...

Be careful. You could have a speedo about to jam up.
I had a whiring speedo once and I lived with it for too long. It turned out to be the speedo itself jamming and when it jammed solid it broke the
speedo cable. That cost me about $40.
I pulled the speedo apart, lubricated it with WD40 to get things loose, dried it out in the sun for a day and then oiled it with good engine oil.
The speedo read fast for a while and then settled down.

You can open the speedo up and clean the gears and relubricate. I have done it before. The hardest part is probably taking the aluminium ring off that
holds the glass in.

Mine went whirring one day and then a few days later the cable broke. I have another cable in and it did the same once when I was on a drive and
getting up to some nice speeds. I hit it with some WD40 and it has been ok since. I do notice that when it does occur though it is at speed not just
driving around town. I think it is more the speedo that the cable. (In my case)
