Fuel tank capacities
As the heading states what are the capacities of the various beetle tanks. I thought I knew but when I double checked in an old manual I was way off.
So feel free to enlighten me.

8.8 Gallons... which comes out to almost exactly 40 liters.
Most I've ever managed to get into the og tank on my 70 beetle was 38.something liters, and although I knew she was low she hadn't coughed at that
point.

I can often get 40L or just over in my L bug.
Interestingly, as a young bloke, if my 69 bug was dead empty, I could just about squeeze $8.00 worth of fuel into it. Those were the days.

its funny looking back
the day i got my Ps and put my first tank of fuel in the bug just for shits and giggles i kept the reciept for years
that was back in the day of good ol leaded fuel with the little bouncy ball in the bowser and it was 74.5 a L
pretty much half what it is today

I have a 67, and it ran out of petrol once and when I filled it up again I couldn't get anymore than 37 litres into it, but it is as said 40L

Cheers, I had it in my head that it was 6.6 imp gallons in a standard and 8.8 in a super but in a workshop manual it states 9.2 imp gallons
(42litres/10.8US gallons) and there's nothing about whether that's in a super or standard. All this btw is just to try to get an old gauge to be as
close to possible to accurate, and to stop my son from worrying all the bloody time!!!

dont worry about when its full
it needs to be accurate when 1/4 and on 1/8 reserve indications

Basically I want it to say 1/2 when it's half full (:spin but not empty
when it drops to a quarter full so that he doesn't run out thinking there's more in there than there is. I can't stand the sulks
