Idle Speed
Just noticed something strange about some figures regarding correct idle RPM
Idoits guide: 850 rpm
Haynes Manual: 800-900rpm
Original car's manual from VWA: 550rpm
just though this was strange, I need to tune it up tommorow and reckon I might go with VW's number but why would these other figures be different?
the engine is an F series 1300 SP all original

but wait theres more, here are some VW manuals from the samba, both for the 1300, 2 different figures....
first one is the same as my one from VWA: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/66bug/50-51.jpg
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/aug65bug/page50.jpg
however, the second one appears to be from 1965, in that case the 1200 is at 700-800rpm... and could be an overlap the first one listed is from 1966
and i definately for the 1300...
i'm still non the wiser though

An old mechanics method on generator equipped cars was to screw the idle down until the gen light on the dash just starts to glow.( screw back and
forwards a few times to get the point accurate) Then screw it back up a quarter of a turn.

I jsut lower mine until it jsut idles then turn it up a few 100 rpm. It idles at about 1100rpm at the moment.....
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
