Electric Help
I have a clarion DB286USB Headunit and i can turn it on but then it comes up with AMP GRD. Ive looked in the manual and it says to check for
resistance, ive done this and got none.
My next issue is ive checked every wire from the headunit to the amp and no nicks or shorts so i dont know what it is. In the manual it says it can be
caused by excessive current needed to turn it on. How can i check this and what causes it because it worked fine till thismorning.
It says to add a relay which i want to do now anyway, how do i do that.
Your help is appreciated. I need info before morning because its not excatly the best driving to school and back with just engine noise.

hi
that would generally mean you have a speaker short or a speaker ground short.disconnect all your speakers from the headunit check each ones
resistance (should be close to 4 ohms),then check for any connection between the speaker an ground(there should be no connection between the speaker
and ground when it's disconnected from the headunit).If this all checks out ok turn the headunit on with no speakers connected if it still does it
then the deck is faulty.If it works ok with no speakers connect them one by one and test it each time.
In regards to a relay you shouldn't need one in a beetle the standard wiring can provide enough current.
Also check the headunit has a good earth.

A relay is just an electromagnetic switch..
I haven't used one on My beetle with a JVC unit..
My JVC is connected to power all the time..
I just turn it on/off... when needed..
You would only need a relay with a high power amplifier,,
it sounds like one of the speaker wires has shorted out..
a bare wire that is shorting to the Ground/earth.
or to the other speaker wire..
the wires going to the doors should have rubber grommets to stop this from happening..
when you say a head unit??? it that the stereo cd player etc in the dash????
I'm a bit old for these "new" words.... lol

Okay i swapped out the head unit, which is that part in the dash. It is working now but i think that is beacuse the one thats in it now is of less
quality. So ill check em for resistance tonight.
And i do have a high powered amp cause im runnning two 12s.
Also im going to frankies this sat and plan on buying some neons for go with the tunes, does anyone know how to wire em so thay have a on off switch
so dont have em on all time and so that when theyre on the flash with the music?

sounds live a question for a fully sic ricer forum, easiest way is to run your neons wiring to the back seat area and just use a toggle switch on the
dash to switch them on and off, there are electric controllers which use a signal from a speaker wire for synchronising them to the music

if you put the head unit back in try eleminating the amp from the equation by d/c it completley and see if you still get the error code
you might find the amps the problem

Yeah i disconected the amp turn on lead as well as the rca cables and just had the speakers hooked up and still happened.
ill look for the switch things That synchronise the neons now.
