Swingaxle Axle Removal (Stock 56 Beetle Box)
How do you remove the axles from a stock 56 beetle gearbox? It looks nothing like a 60's box with the side plates removed; and I can't see a snap
ring or thrust washer to enable removal.
Do I need to split the gearbox case?
Any advice would be appreciated.

They are considerably thinner than later 40hp,
and much thinner than 1300 short axles,
so best not use them for any more than stock power,
unless you can't acquire some later (better) short axles.
