Installing pop outs in a 65 bug, NOW DRILLED & FITTED

Hi guys,

I'm scratching my head trying to install some pop outs into my 65 bug, I'm looking for the "5 pre-drilled holes" in the rear 1/4 window / pilar area which according to the instructions are on every beetle - but not mine! Anyone else come across this? Wouldn't mind some advice before I start drilling.
Thanks.

You've got the existing windows out, yeah ???

Every bug I've seen they've been there... underneath the normal window rubber, right through the spot welded/crimped seam where the inside and outside panels join.

Do you have the holes in the C pillar for the pivot arm/lock thingy to mount up to ???

Hi

Early bugs as in 6 volt models didn't get the holes from the factory.

Have a look on Samba there might be instructions or a template.

In the US your car would be a 64 model.

OR a 1963 model.. etc...

The German made 1965 -66 -67 were different to the Aussie 65- 66- 67 beetles...

seems strange that early beetles didn't have the pop out holes yet they were a popular option in the USA...

Thanks for all the info guys, drilled the holes (gulp!) and carefully installed the pop outs this arvo. Confident this is a good an install as you're gonna get, yet they are by no means a perfect fit - close, but not spot on. However, the most important thing is they cool super nice! Will post some pictures tomorrow. Thanks again.

For those who don't know

the holes for the pop out windows which are in all later beetles
1968> on

are NOT drilled but punched with some sort of pointed punch..
