Views on side winder exhaust
Hi all,
as per another post on here I am looking at updating my crappyempi exhaust. Does anybody have one of the sidewinder exhaust as offered by Wolfsburg
Automotive??
They are only $550 del where a A-11 from tiger in the US is about $1000.
Tell me what you think of them and also what size they are (1-3/8", 1-1/2" or 1-5/8")??
I know the ones from Wolfsburg auto are impported but I don't know where from.

I should be putting my new exhaust on in the next couple of days
I got mine from V Force
It is custom made and starts at 1 1/2" at the exhaust ports and is 1 3/8" at the collector.
2" after that
Header side ceramic coated
Muffler side stainless steel

Wolfsburg don't have a web address. But if you have the feb - april aussie vdub mag it is in thier ad. it is a small picture though. It eliminates
the heater boxes - runs J pipes.
Bizarre - what did you pay for yours - if you don;t mind me asking??

It is in the A1 territory - a wee bit more in fact
All depends what muffler etc
Takes a while as it is custom built
I went this way as i wanted heater boxes and ceramic coating - not the low quality stainess i have seen
Mine is also tapered design - "should" be better.
It tucks up better as well
As i said before - a window of opportunity to cry once
Will see soon how it goes

I've fitted a couple of Sidewinders (not from W/burg), no prob with quality IMO, but I prefer to mod the lower tinware to have a shield to eliminate
the heating effect from the J pipes being so close to the pushrod tubes, and one had the muffler too close to the head, also an issue with the heat,
so mods have been necessary. Overall a good choice for ground clearance, performance and longevety. I think only available in 1 5/8" though.

On a smallish motor what do you believe would be the result of putting 1 5/8" Vs 1 3/8" or 1 1/2" ???

The bigger exhaust effects the bottom end torque, the term "doughy bottom end" comes to mind but spelling it ??? well you get the idea.

on my 1915 I have installed a 1 5/8th sidewinder from CVD and a magnaflow muffler bought independently from the sates.
Pretty happy, other then the grade of s/s used (I would have it hpc coated if I did it again).
The only problem I have in my 58 is the merged pipes put too much heat into the valance. I've subsequently purchased some ACL aluminium heat shield
to shape and install. Hopefully this keeps the heat out of the panel.
