Do I need new heads
After reading many of the sites recommended to me, I have found that the heads on my engine have small valves. The inlet measure app 32/33mm, and the
exhaust 31mm. Will these be too small for the upgrade from 1300 to 1600cc. It is a twin port engine and the heads look in really good nic, so it would
be a shame to have to replace them. I have to keep in mind this rebuild is for reliability over performance, as the car is my daughters.
Any thoughts?

If that is a twin port 1300 i would be leaving it as it is
Every one i have driven easily goes as good as a 1600
What is the engine number??
Does it have stock exhaust?? twin heat riser pipes??

Definately twin port 1300, pistons 76mm ish. Engine # AC 002624, told by previous owner it was an import 20 odd years ago by original owner. I have
the original owners service manual as well with service stamps till 1973 at Clarence Amersinghe also has original engine and body numbers . I do need
to change piston rings and bottom end bearings it is fairly worn. Exhaust is stock, not sure what twin heat riser pipe is.
Another questuion while I'M here. Is the flywheel size measured by the diameter of the clutch plate?. Most I see are 200mm, where this one is 180mm.

if they are the late 1300 TP heads and you want to keep them but fit 1600 P&C kit you'll have to have them bored out.
case is fine for 1600 kit though

I understand I will need to get the heads fly cut for the larger bore. Was more concerned with it breathing well enough with the smaller valves. I
guess this is a standard mod, so should be ok.

The 1300 twin port seemed to be a "get go" type of motor even though it has small valves
Guessing it is all to do with velocity and flow - but every one i have driven goes every bit and more better that most 1600's i have driven

All sounds good. I will just give them a clean up, match up ports with the inlet manifolds( you could see where the inlet manifolds met with a lot of
carbon build up) and re seat the valves, should be a good thing. Thanks guys.

Barry, I've got a freshly rebuilt 1300DP in my 68 bug in Ireland, and it feels pretty gutless. It has a new H30/31 carb and 009, and it was
originally a 1300, so it has a 1300 gearbox. Underwhelming was the word I was looking for. Since the bottom end is all fresh, I was going to upgrade
it to 1600 when I get back there in July. It seems to have single heat risers on it. Here is a pic:-

wonder if they have the small valved heads??
I have driven a few at Mortlake that the boys have had and i have been impressed to say the least.
Snappy for a stocker has been my inpression
They were all twin pipe heat riser, alternator jobs.
Cant remember what carb was on them - see if i can find out
