SUB CONVERSIONS
Hi
I read many topic on the sub conversions, good, but it's difficult to valid any information. everybody make it with differents sort of parts.
is what one could do a synthesis ?
by engine for example
EJ20
EJ20T
EJ22
EJ25
EJ25T
with everything we need to make the conversion, links etc
just for the engine, cause for the gearbox , we need to use an adapter ( and put a porsche gearbox into a bug or a bus
can be describe on another topic)
That can be the reference for all the world..
What do you think about that?

i think you need to consider which application. ie the engine that fits in the bug engine bay will fit easier in the ghia and kombi engine bay.
then there is the case of of early and late bug

Like Barls said it varies greatly on the intended transplant patient.
Essentially they are all the same engine when it comes down to basics, it just some are quad cam, some twin and turbo or n/a but they all require
roughly the same work to fit depending what they're going in

EJ20 = Normaly asperated , hard to get oly came out in JDM ( aska ) made and badged under lic with Isuzu these are a good motor when it comes to the
bottom end as there closed deck case and have oil squirters however the heads have issues due to the little lifters
EJ20T, good easy to find go with 1996>
EJ22, good motor but now getting on , get from 1996> or best of the pick V3STI ect and GTB yellow injectors twin turbo
EJ25, single head motors are getting on and do have head gasket problems
EJ25T, good however the fly by wire motors can be hard to get to work

The downside to engines after 96 is they are interference engines. if the timing belt breaks or jumps a few teeth which isn't out of the ordinary
your dealing with bent valves and possible piston damage
95 and earlier twin cam engines just put the belt back on and drive.

CDB are wasted on NA engines
Just the token AUDM EJ20 as fitted to pov pak libs, imp and forester are good engines, theres no power difference between quad cam and twin cam with
the non variable models

Just about that are around in the year your talking a very old & need work. I have never seen a broken belt todate or a jumped tooth even on a
very hot turbo motor, do the timing belt at 100,000ks and your sweet.

I think what Thierry(southcoast cruiser) is hinting at is the need for a database for all info regarding subaru into VW...should only amount to a few minutes work...who is gonna be the
volunteer

I'm talking AUDM SOHC vs DOHC.
not many people want the hassle of getting hold of a JDM engine let alone dealing with the ECU.
My subi bloke tells me the difference is all in the management but JDM engines always have higher output
That EJ222 in mine is sposed to be 144hp instead of the usual 137hp but i doubt its getting that still running AUDM EJ22M manifold and management.
ANyway thats enough hijacking.
Thierry, theres a similar thread to what you mention on VWKD in the subaru section.
