Thanks for the 'heads-up' Brennden, The pic of that white 1957 Carrera GS brings back memories.

The car had a racing history in its' day. I had some involvement with it during restoration, during the 1980s??

It was part of the significant Pat Burke collection, restored by Barry Goyen, mechanicals by Peter Malloy - I supplied some of the original missing parts and helped Barry when he struggled with some health issues.

The car has some unusual Porsche factory options: Bench Front Seat, SunRoof (Goldie, I think), side window Wind Deflectors and Rudge Wheels on top of the 4 Cam Engine and GS interior.

The restoration was one of the better ones - these days the 356s tend to be 'over restored' ie loose originality by applying too much modern process and stuff to them.

Between being part of the Burke collection and Bowden collection, the car had several owners in Melbourne. It was taken to America one year, where it was driven, East:West across the continent (the engine needed work during this trip - these four cammers need to be reved constantly - they fail if lugged). It was invited to the Pebble Beach Concourse and won a 'Gold' -
I think that other than the good resto, a long way from home, actually driven there, the fact that it was factory RHD, the Rudges and particularly the Bench Seat - the Yanks thought it a little bit unique , for a road car.

If you get to see it, have a look at the Rudges. There should be five of them. There were only four and the fifth was hand made during restoration. Have a look and see if you can identify which one.

Lance.

thanks for the story mate. Dan Bowden does tell of a similiar story about the car and it's history from memory when I have been up there at Buderim.
