Accelerator Pedal Arm Stuck
Dropped my engine today to replace the rear tranny mounts, and while doing so i overlooked disconnecting the throttle cable from the carb (yes, silly
me). I finally noticed after having trouble pulling the engine away from the car, so i disconnected it and went on my way. The cable seems ok, not
broken up the engine end but after re-installing the engine the accelerator pedal arm is stuck and won't budge when i try to rev.
I pushed hard on the pedal at first and the pedal 'Z' linkage became disengaged, so i had to remove the pedal to get it all back together. I
re-installed the pedal linkage and pedal and the same thing happened again.
Have i damaged or disconnected something by pulling on the accelerator cable at one end? And how do i get to the cable at the pedal end to check for
damage? .

....hmm I no VW mechanic (just ask Matt) , but I think there is an inspection plate under the fuel tank on the firewall that you can get to all that
jazz in the channel. Just means you gotta remove the fuel tank which isn't really that hard.
Good luck my friend

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have a look in the morning. I've just cleaned myself up after a hard day in the garage
I'll probably end up replacing the cable because i don't know how long it's been in there for and i'm guessing i've stretched/weakened it. The
last thing i want is to have that break on a lonely road.

Hi
The accelerator cable connects to the end of the pedal shaft inside the square box on the Left Hand side of the tunnel..
The accelerator cable hasn't been changed since LHD that is why its still on the LH side of the tunnel...
Seeing I have never forgotten to undo the accelerator cable when taking the engine out.... lol
You may have damaged the end of the cable or the end of the cable or the accelerator arm end...??
cheers
LEE
PS: Yes, I would recommend changing the cable
they are very cheap.... buy a spare.... LEE

It shouldn't be a drama take the cover off the LH side of the tunnel, at a guess I'd say the lever has pulled across the stop and jammed, simply
straighten and your fixed

UPDATE!
Here's what had happened: when i pulled on the cable too much at the engine end, it jammed the moulded end of the cable into the cable tubing and
bent the tubing slightly. All it took was to whack the arm in the picture below with a hammer, and some pliers to bend the tubing straight, and it
doesn't catch now.
Thanks for the help everyone. Now just waiting for the wife to get home so i can borrow her car to go get some new cable.
