Single weber carb options


Hello fellow dubbers,
Im looking to replace the 30 year old weber carb on my 1600. I wanted to get a twin carb set up but am running low on dosh, so was looking at single weber IDA's. Would a 48 IDF be too big?
Ive got fly cut heads off of a formula vee car nd decent pipes on it.

The current carb is gonna cost roughly the same for a new set up if I was to get it fixed, so ive got about $500-600 nd from what I gather from this forum I should stay clear of the cheap dual set ups. So I was wondering if a 44 or a 48 would b the way to go.
Has anyone put a single 48 IDA-F on a 1600?

mmmm..............never heard of a single IDA set up

most singles are IDF40 or 44s and are a pig to jet

What is the Weber you have??
I would be inclined to get that fixed

If it worked before and you were happy - stick with it

Nothing is going to bolt on and run
You are going to have to jet the sucker

Why not buy a new carb that is the same as the one you already have,

Someone will probably shoot me down but a pair of kadrons are in your budget.... They never let me down, try classic vee dub for a new set, i think he has them about that price. Or call rod penrose, you might be lucky with a twin weber set up secondhand for that money... Or kads.

This is my first vw, so im learning as I go. I bought the bug as a unroadworthy very very tired nd in desperate need of luvin project. Ive rebuilt the engine nd its so close to rego now. The carb was put on it 30 years ago its got a number stamped on it 40DCN14 D9.
Ive had it checked out at vw performance nd it needs to b rebuilt as it is only good for idle nd low revs. It also is not matching up pedal movment versus linkage. It needs a completely new linkage set up to get any decent opening at the butterflies.
Im keen for a set of Kadrons nd decent linkage.
I was thinking of quality for buckeroos nd some of tge feedback ive heard on here regarding getting cheap gear has put a bit of caution into descission making.
As far as I can see I cant find a similar carb new with the same product number.

I like kads, good for the budget conscious and very easy to set up. Have a chat to rod penrose he is very knowledgeable and won't steer you wrong, he will more than likely have a carb set up to sell you also.

Overhaul your existing carb, five time better built that a set of kadrons, it's already been on your car for 30 years, just rebuild it and fix the linkage, i ran a single one of these years ago and was pretty good as a single, much better quality, ball raced throttle shaft lasts for ever.
