I've got an old magazine in which he states they have 100hp at the wheels......
Congratulations to Ben Durie for breaking the hillclimb record at Ringwood in his stroker beetle!

125 hp is what I've heard, so 100 at the wheels sounds pretty close.

I would be surpised :o

We have just (well a couple this year) had a Dyno Day and there was a couple of Pobjoy motors there in various forms

NO 1916 or sub 2L made 100 ponies at the wheels - so i cant see how a base 1916 would

Correct me if i am wrong but a base is 040 heads, NON CW crank Kads and a near stock cam??

I think the base would be 70 on a good day

Yep you are wrong. The stage 1 or base does have a CW crank. That's why they spin so freely and smooth, and last so long.

The cam being close to stock? Well I'm not sure but they have good grunt from next to no revs all the way to about 5000 - 5500rpm, kicking in at about 3200. Very drivable! But if ya want more, go the steroids.

Dubnut,

As mentioned above, the best thing to do is ring Stan 02 6650 9616.

It would be wrong of people, who are not employees of the Man, to start quoting prices. Surely you can understand that. :thumb

The 'base' Kadron equipped engine doesn't have a CW crank as, despite common opinion, with proper assembly it's not required at this performance level. But the 'steroids' and hillclimb engines do!

Sorry, you are incorrect. I have a "base" 1916 and it has a counterweighted crank. Was given the choice of what I wanted on the engine when I ordered it. Had the choice of Kadron or webber carbs also. Only difference in the "steroid" engine was the cam profile and the nitrated crank, which I felt I did not require for my purpose.:bounce My "spare" engine is a steroid..........have not needed it yet!!

:P:P

Alls i was going on is an old VW Aust mag that did a story on Stans motors. Pretty sure it was the same one as has Project Panza in. I rang him up after that and asked a few questions.

Seems like it is an up grade option - or a cost save option if going the other way

No way the base 1916 pobjoy is making 100 ponies at the wheels!

Not a chance.

70(ish) is more likely - if it has been ported and tickled a bit...

-----'Or is this another thread of "something for sale but Im noyt going to tell you how much it is"-----

Yeah I think it is that kinda thread.

Im interested how much. Ballpark. I KNOW it will differ with spec. Use, etc.

I will never buy an engine from Stan. Not for any dislike for the man. Hell he has my utmost respect simply from a photo Iv seen of him in an old vw mag torquing up a glandnut wearing an MRA windcheater. Its just that I would build myself. If I wanted a motorsport engine I would probably have called him already. I am simply curious what an engine of that calibre costs. Yes I could ring him but that would waste his time and he runs a businessmaking vw engines by hand. So through my altruism I am ensuring the 15 minutes of crap he would talk with me is going into another piece of handcrafted VW product. So I feel good about myself. Kool karma to me!😀

thank god its friday........😀😀😀

and tell me a price?:cry

geeez...for $5000 i'd rather stick to my reliable(mostly) old 1500sp.:o i don't think i could ever justify spending that much on a engine, even if it did give me unbvleivable performance.

Wait till you drive one!

Old technology and new performance is the best feeling.

I am about to turn 42 (yeah BWAHAHA!! old fart - you may laugh!) and i have only relatively lately got my 1776 and duals. Man i wonder how old i will b before i have a 84 stroker!

It IS worth it. Compare to a new car for 20k!
Can you afford it?? - that is the sad question

i've been running a base 1916cc for years.... now i'm upgrading to the steroids spec, if anyone wants a joyride it'll be in sometime in the next couple of weeks 😀 wish i'd gone the steroids option first go, but then i only had a go of a steroids motor after the base had been built for a couple of years. I got out of the car (ironically it used to be a pobjoy ex-race beetle) grinning like an idiot, it's that much fun.
But, I wouldn't have had the chance to use the new hardcore Al case if i'd gone steroids back then. shame that anyone can have this motor now, but at least there'll be more shocked looks on peoples faces with all the steroids *plus* motors now freely available to everyone.
IF you do come for a joyride, i am not responsible for making you want one 😉
