56 Oval

Hi I just bought this 56 Oval, I found it in a driveway abut 10 ks from my house, I used to see it under a tarp but a few weeks ago the tarp blew of so I saw it was an Oval. Funny thing is two forum members regularly drive past the house where it was. Not sure what colour to paint it, thinking a US colour Capri Blue. So I will get it back on the road some nice wheels and a little bit lower It has been modified a little, 1600 single port motor later synchro trans adjustable front beam KMac front sway bar 4 stud Beetle front disc brakes and Type 3 rear drums the dash has holes in for gauges, a tacho and fuel gauge, not sure if I will fill this in or not

Hi

Long time no updates.

I retired last August so I'm getting stuck back into my Oval. I've been accepted to take the car to Summernats 2025 so the pressure is on.

I've been chipping away at the car still lots to do. Its booked in for interior in late October.

Motor is now reconditioned 1916. I'm fitting EFI and a SC12 supercharger to it using a custom plenum and Mexican EFI manifolds

Think I read on the Samba the Mexi manifolds are restrictive? No idea whether correct or not but maybe something to check?

They are about as restrictive as stock carby manifold ends. The centre section has a very small throttle body but I'm not using that, a custom plenum will go in place of it.

It's just a cruiser that will make some cool noises

I'm running a deadhead fuel system or non return so ran a -6 line today

I'm also using LS truck coils. Needed some longer leads as I'm running the coils behind the fan housing. I tried everywhere to buy them so Amazon came to the rescue. I have 4 spare leads as I use LS coils on my other Beetle but they were too short. These ones will be easier fit VW spark plug boots to

I had the Oval tuned the other day on a dyno.

Engine specifications
1916. Stock heads 110 Engle cam (not ideal for a supercharged) and 1.25 rockers, Vintage speed exhaust. 4 LS coils, Dubshop crankangle sensor and CB cam position sensor. Haltech Nexus 2 ecu. 485cc injectors with a 5th injector before the supercharger and drive by wire.

SC12 supercharger with custom pulleys.

Best 98 RON run was 98.5 kW or 132 kW at 5550 rpm and 80% throttle.
We then swapped to E85 and did a few power runs but a gasket leak at the inlet manifold prevented anymore power runs, but it still made 108kW or 145.6 hp at the wheels on 90% throttle.

The best thing about the drive by wire is that the throttle can be used to limit boost. The drive by wire is also used as a rev limiter, it rolls the throttle off near redline before a fuel cut
