A lot of us have a name for our VW's. What is yours and why is it?
Our 1975 Microbus is called 'HELBUS'
Fleur had dreams of her Kombi driving out of hell on fire. These dreams gave her ideas on the colour scheme and style for her bus.
The 1970 Beetle is called either 'KOC' or the 'Kocmobile'
This is quite obvious once you see the rego.
My68 is dougal from magic round about! the 56 oval is zebadie also from magic round about !! if you seen it you'll understand !!!
And the misses kombi is pippi ! Pippi long stockings !!! I'd never heared of it but she had !!!!!!!!!
Da Time For The Aircooled Revolution Is Upon US.
Brothers & Sisters Lets Hit The Streets, Roll As One. And Feel The Power Of The Aircooled Storm.
Our ghia vert is Max because Maxwell smart drove one and our Karmann cabriolet is 99 because of the same show. The 68 beetle is blue bug because she is blue and the new beetle vert is new bug. They have the number plates 86 AGT, 99 AGT and NU BUG.
My baja is called Dozer because it does. and my sisters one is called Bubbles and i haven't the slightest idea why.
Doka is my "Dopple Kabine" truck.

I bought my current 67 beetle after it was sitting in a shed for seven years, before that ive got no idea where its been or what its done. Anyhow when i was ripping it to bits for the current resto i found half a coconut inside the front quarter, kind of obvious to call it "coconut" , suprisingly enuff it was a coconutty beige colour, soon to be finnished in a beigy green coconutty colour.
God bless the coconut and all that sail in her!
mirp mirp went the hair lipped dog
Think mine should be called Hienz as its a 57.
if you dont get it you are too young
Cheers
Dave
72 super - herbert
I liked herbie but he wasn't herbie so it seemed like sacrilige to call him that, and bertie was cool name, so out of those came herbert. bert or herb for short.

1974 Orange Bus is called DABITCH (It hates me.... every time i drive her she does not start or something brakes)
1973 Orange Bus is called Lella DABUS
1968 Country Buggy is called Erwin (The guy before us owned him for 10 years and he took Erwin to Valla the frist year he owned him and the name stuck)
2000 Yellow Beetle Leighla (now sold)
1970 Baja is called Boof....... Lovely and sweet on the inside and big and boofy on the outside
Moniek and Michael
I have a theory.....
It goes a little something like this. As soon as you impart a human name on a mechanical object, you immediately impart onit human personalities. Once you have done this, you are inviting unreliability and imperfections. Why? Cos humans are imperfect and unreliable..... Odd, I know, but thats me... I know cars can be unreliable and imperfect, but why tempt fate.....
Although I love my car more than many other things in my life, or more than I should, it (note... no sex... imparts a human trait on it...) will always be "the GTI" or "the Golf". Having said that, I believe i belong to my car as much as it belongs to me... Craaaazy...
(my previous experience in naming cars proved my theory.... 81 sigma named earnest (as in "it tried in...") and an 88 magna wagon called..... actually I cant remember, but it was something to do with being boring.... heh heh)
Steve. Classic 85 Mk2 2dr GTI 8v Optioned sunroof and 15"BBS RS alloys. Koni yellow and H&R, Balanced bottom end, flowed top end, Neuspeed 268 cam.
Our Oval is either called:
"Poppy's Beetle" cause it was my dad's car;
or "The VeeDub"
VW car, VW engine ...... keepin it "real"
35MPG on 101.3kPa
My new splitty didn't come with a name so I'm tossing up on a few now. So far it's looking like Yertle (the Turtle)... because it's green and slow.
Kermit????
A golf????
heheheheheheh
Kermit the Type 3!
1962 Type3 Squareback
1967 Type3 Fastback "Kermit"
The truth is important. It will set you free
my kombi is called Dubster coz wen we were thinking of a name my dad jokingly said dumpster and so my sister came up with dubster!!
Buddah.
After yet another rebuild of the kombi, the mother in law suggested I call it Jesus cause it had risen from the dead.
But Jesus only did it once!...........😎
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
<------------------------------- My Beetle is called Shazza, dont know why but thats what I called her and now everyone calls her Shazza not 'the beetle' 😉
My oval's name is Belle. (this seems to be a popular name with bugs here!) I named her after Belle from Disney's "Beaty and the Beast" because I reckon she's the fittest Disney chick ever.
...and Robert's ya father's brother...
Mine is called oddjob (rego is OJB 201)
and the green bug is Fifi (rego 242 FYI)
come to think of it, everyone i know refers to my kombi as "the bus", or "that VW thing that your working on", or "that thing under the tarp" but i think i might use Eleanor (gone in 60 seconds), or see what other names wre used int that movie.

ive named my new twin cab , 'lois' as in supermans fling. as she is in need of saving, and i am saving her 😉. i hope mk2 is not on the money, as my name might imply that she will always need saving. damn i hope not.
hey kombinkarma, i thought fes was spelt f.e.s. for foreign exchange student. 😉
jac named or splitty george. as it sat in our front yard for yonks doing nothing but looking all daggy. no offence to any georges on this forum or known personally by any forum members. 🙂 but now she is thinking of a new name for a new look.
neville the notch. named by a friend as he thought it was nifty, for the $$$ when we picked it up.
our old chop top beetle was named 'deathtrap'. for very obvious reason.
Simply Cruzin'...
What's wrong with you people, their all just cars!!! My Manx is a Manx and that's the end of it.
And for all you people out there reading this with discussed looks apon your faces, would you expect anything less from someone who goes around cutting up Beetles to get his beach buggy.
😉
One old bug was called Max - because well best not to go into it... She might be reading.
My current bus is called Winky. WKY plates and the banged in right front indicator.
Project is called Bruisin' - from the Reverend Horton Heat song "Cruisin for a Bruisin'" - "Don't say nothing about his girl or his car, you might just fight the unwinnable war." And because it's gonna bruise all the purists out there that think old metal shouldn't be cut.
hey kombinkarma, i thought fes was spelt f.e.s. for foreign exchange student. 😉
Well I think your right,
wonder if my son knows, its actually his car but it still lives here in my garage.
:sandrine
As for mine, she is called the "Ol Girl"
or just plain "Bug"
I never knew til recently all my local respite clients named her the "Love Bug"
to my annoyance as she doesn't resemble
the love bug in any way....but I guess its a Byron thing...
And I am known as the "VW Kid" to some of the elderly men (at the local retirement village) as everything I eat, breath, sleep & own is VW related...
