I’m discussed with the type of comments and language being displayed for all to see. The forum is there to be shared and viewed by everyone. Do we really want current or potential VW lover interested in the forum to perceive us this way? Those members, who will remain nameless, “you know you are” Should have a good hard think before there next posting on the forum.

I believe these individuals are bringing discredit upon the forum and the VW scene.

I’m interested to hear other forum users views on this.

I don't care about the language but I am amazed at the way some people attack others just for expressing their opinion and then it turning into a "School Yard" argument.
I thought the forum was so we can all share our knowledge, opinions and meet other like minded VW lovers, and most of all..... to have FUN!
Some members need to grow up (mentally) and not think when someone voices their opinion that they are attacking them personally.

Well that's my 2cents worth.

I guess the problem is (as is the problem with most forums / message boards etc) is that you can't read the persons face or hear the tone in thier voice when they make the comment and most people jump to the conclusion that they are being nasty.
I think Bone Collector was right in saying we need to use a little bit of common sence.

I agree, this should be a place to be enjoyed and ppl should think about how their statements may be viewed by others. no matter what is said and how it is said think before you type.

It doesn't take much to be a little sensible and sensitive.... Trust me, I have had to bite my tounge and hold back comments quiet a few times and that is definately not in my nature (I'm a mega bitch!!! lol), but I don't like to make enemies. You never know when you may need a helping hand and the only person that can help is someone that you have pissed off.

I agree there is far to much use of profanity on the forum. Nearly every post there is someone swearing. I personally don't like reading profanity and I agree that it reflects badly on all forum members as we basically condone it by not saying anything.

Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to an opinion and free speech and all that, but you don't need to use profanity to get your point accross.

Maybe we should start a poll on this, and then the Moderators can turn the filter on that blocks out profanity.

That's my 2c.

Always remember that there are kids, grandmas, and sensitive people reading the forum. Don't use language that would be inappropriate for those people. Simple!

I agree....people should remember that this is a public forum and that "name calling" and "car bashing" should not have a place here. We all should respect others rides and lowering standards to express an attitude should be taken elsewhere ( the toilet perhaps and flush twice so it goes the distance). RESPECT has been lost???? No need to use obscene language to express an opinion. Some people need to grow up........and buy a buggy:bounce

What people have to do is read the posts to enjoy them or not, it's up to you.
If there is a thread about an issue/topic that asks you for a comment, then go ahead..... do your best.

BUT..... there is no need for negative comments that you know will upset the originator of the post that was not warented or needed to comment on.

i.e. (post) "look at my nissan powered, baja beetle's new paint job"
Don't answer with ..........ah bloody baja's there all shit, i hate it when people do that to them or you just wrecked a perfectly good car putting water cooled into a bug!
or It's not a real VW anymore..... you know what i'm getting at 🙂

The originator of the post wanted us to look at the new paint job, not to knock there taste in cars or modifications. Alot of people take heaps of time, effort and money to get there car to where it is, or buy a dunger for a couple of hundred bucks, but love it all the same....... so do us all a favour and keep any negative comments to a absolute minimum as it will only upset members about posting messages again.
Unless the member is asking for positive or negative comments about there posted topic, there is plenty of opportunity to do so then and debate the issues they posted about.

Also, please people don't get so bloody anal on certain topics regarding dates, years, models etc that some new (and old members) may not know about. Be constructive and explain there misinformation, not distructive, it just pisses members off. Like being corrected from a bloody school teacher (apologies to all teachers on the forum 🙂 )

I'm the first to get very upset at certain comments about a topic that i may post about, it's supposed to be fun and enjoyable, so take the time to think about posting replies and remember the originator of the post did not want (usually) a shit fight about the topic he/she put up.

Now join me in a big group******HUG******* :kiss

just kidding. 😉

allow me to apologise for my use of profanity, i was just frustrated with the situation, which is of course, no excuse. however, i do maintain that i haven't 'bagged' anyone's ride. (although, i'd love to 'bag' my own, if you catch my drift 😉)

i would also like to take this opportunity to thank the mod or whoever it was that deleted my thread in member's rides instead of just deleting the few offensive posts in it, while all the other threads with similar sentiment in them remain. that was a great move.

Well said BLKBUG. This forum was a place of encouragement some time ago, and that was one of the many reasons it was made.
Unfortunetly, somewhere along the line, we have lost sight of that, and become bitter and selfish, and sometimes closed minded in our ideas and opinions.

Cray, your post has been placed in the 'Suspended Posts' section of the Moderator forum. It will either stay there, or it will be edited and returned back from whenst it came. I didn't move it, nor do I know who did.

As far as the language is concerned, we as a forum had a poll sometime ago that discussed whether we could turn the filter on/off, or were we all adult enough to use disgretion in our use of language.
I am guilty of cussing to both describe emotions or anything else. I think the Grandmas/ Kids/ etc. arguement is pitiful. If you are old enough to have an interest in VW's, then you are old enough to have heard such 'adult' language before, however indecent it may seem. After all, this forum is generally an adult environment, with the exceptions of maybe a handful of teenagers, and I am certain that they have heard/ read the language before.

It all boils down to common sense. Simple. Use it when you need to use it, and there won't be a problem.

Honestly I haven't noticed too much swearing......:jesus

Some of the members can get a wee bit over excited or a bit insensitive with their comments at times but over all I think things are fairly fine

The internet medium is not the ideal one for forethought at times :duh

It's an instant exposure that some people may regret for a time later on:jesus

A nice guide for posting stuff on forums I find is to not say anything that you wouldn't say to a person if they were standing in front of you. That and if someone posts something which you feel like reacting too, try to wait an hour or so (maybe even sleep on it), cool down and think before you post.

I've got into all out mud slinging with people via e-mail, forums and instant messengers in the past, and it's extremely unpleasant to the point where I managed to completely alienate two good friends.

Sometimes it's better to pick your battle's wisely and not get caught up over anything to trivial. By the way that's said only with reference to the trivial things I've got into arguments about in the (thankfully distant) past, not anything that's happened on here.

Sorry about the past. I've reformed!

So, I was on the way to church, when I pricked myself in the finger doing my needlepoint. "Darn", I said. I shall have to fix the suspension. Or perhaps lay off doing needlepoint whilst driving. It's good being silly and emotionless oncemore!
