You must fight and fight and fight until they like them dammit! 🙂

Ok, ok, I guess we have to accept that some people maybe possibly somehow aren't into dubs and if you aren't just interested but obsessed, it can make it very hard for your partners. If you accept each other's different interests though, it can work. Showing interest in your partner's hobbies is usually a good way for them to accept yours.

My bf wasn't interested in dubs till we spent every weekend working on my old baby just to make the thing run. He learnt to love them pretty quickly! Now I have to drive him to work everyday cos he wants to go in Herbie. His Celica isn't good enough anymore! 😀

I got my drivers licence late in life & always loved & wanted a bug.
A few yrs ago I finally got my licence & I bought one & started slowly doing things to it to give it that extra sparkle because she didn't look real good when I bought her.
So over time I have done many things to her & now she is
starting to look pretty good.
My very supportive husband & I started with no knowlege on her or any VW for that matter, but over time we learn't many things on the way with it.
Over time that bug has started a BIG obsession with VW.
I now run a branch of Klub VW here in Byron Bay, have met so many (& still meeting) some very beautiful people out there as well as here on the forum.
My hubby has watched my obsession become larger & larger
over time & supports my interest.
Now we have bought a 58 Microbus & I think he has gotten just as excited as me with the thought of a great resto approaching.
I married a good one who never gets jealous with me chatting VW to other guys, going to events alone, hanging out with guys, puts up with many ph calls etc. (thats why I maried him )
At the time when we met no cars were involved then....
he owned a Ducati & raced it & I went along to watch & support him......funny how life goes....
Funny how they say "find someoone with the same interests as you"....our passion together at the time was owning & restoreing a old Home (queenslander)
That passion has finished....been there & done that...now its VW...
Our home now has 3 VW's ...my 61 Bug, 58 Microbus, a 2002
VW (commercial) Transporter we use for our business.
(and the sons 2 Mazda's... 1 RX7 & 1 STB 1300)
So our interests have both changed along the way but still the same as well.
I have been lucky enough to find a great man who supports
my many interests & puts up with my love of VW's.
I consider myself very lucky....
Judy

i was a holden man when my wife and i met.
She was 17 and her dad just bought her the car that she always wanted, a little bug.
Her choice of car didn't phase me as it only took her to work and tafe, the rest of the time was in my Kinga.
over the years that we have been together i have managed to snag the bug off of her.
Albeit that i had to spend $16000 on a new car for her in order to get her to hand over the keys.
But it was well worth it.
some people are like slinky's
they have no useful purpose
but they are fun to watch

Hmm, funny how some people seem to persuade themselves into becoming dub-heads, while others couldn't be tortured into doing so.

My sister grew up in Europe, I lived here, so when she came over we decided to travel a bit. So we needed a car. Although I didn't know anything about Kombis (uh, they're Volkswagens right?) she said that's what we should get (just 'cause they're cool, and she didn't like "bogan-wagons" = commodores), instead of a stationwagon commodore (Looking back now, I shudder when I realise how close I was to getting one of those things!)

We got a baywindow, and had a very educational experience driving it, occassionally on two cylinders, around VIC, SA, & NSW this Summer. I love my bus. Now my housemates tease me about my obsession. I bought a little splitty model at the Jamboree the other day. My sister still just thinks kombis are cool. She's into Datsuns (strange huh).

I became a dubber of my own free will.

As long as partners are not ones that can't handle time apart, I see no problem in having (some) different interests - I agree that it's even a good thing. Then again, finding a nice girl in a dub, wow, that'd be cool now wouldn't it, and philosophising be damned!

Cheers volks,
Aurel.

PS: how grouss was the jamboree on Sunday!

The fair lady Melanie hates my VW,s & they have always hated her back.
When ever something has gone seriously amiss, she has been driving.

The throttle jammed wide open on the baja, she was driving.(I fixed the problem but she never drove it again)
ALL 6 BOLTS came loose on a CV joint & it fell off the kombi, she was driving.

So she has a Mazooda & I have my VWs. We don't touch the others car.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.

My hubby and I both Love veedubs, I have 3 daughters we take them to all the shows they love it. Last time we took a couple of their girlfriends camping and let them sleep in the kombi they thought it was great, got them up early and went to the Big pineapple veedub show. All the way home they were deciding what veedub they are going to buy when they get their licence.

I am extremely lucky that my fiancee loves dubs too (not to the extent of my compulsive obsession, but enough to tolerate my addiction)!

It helps having been together for so long, so she has been around since my interest in vws started - spending oodles of dosh, and any spare time on my dub is not too big a deal! (most times).

Hehe nice topic. For me my gf doesnt mind my car at all in fact i think she loves it more than i do. What she doesnt like is the "fixing up the car" parts, leaves that to me. When i met her she didnt give a crap about cars that much but i am slowly turning her round he he, but she just thinks my car is cute. And she would drive a volkswagen any day, so hopefully i can get her to drive a volksie for her first car...maybe a beetle. And she will come to all the volkswagen shows i go to, she wants to learn.

reviving an old thread here. mine tolerates it cause she doesn't know any better and she knows that when im talking to her and stop when we are out that im checking out a dub not another woman. so she loves the fact that i only have eyes for her. so im committed to teaching her about vws

Started a new job recently & the guys who work there think its great that a chick is "into" cars.
The girls are shocked that I love my car like an addiction.
Then they realized its a big part of my life...car, internet, Klub VW, days off to go to vw events. etc.
I am seeming to break their mould of the "car beven" lol.

This is another reason why I started a All Girl Dub Day for all the girls to share their love of VW's together.
Not just sit on the passengers seat of their boyfriend's car at vw shows & not talk to no one...... get out there & get a VW
their cheap, parts are easy to get, won't break the bank balance & you can only spend the little $ you have on them & still have a nice car......

well Eirinn (the appointed "Goddess of love") my girlfreind is on the search for a Beetle of her own right now so there is no dramas with her being annoyed about my dub. she knows she comes first before my car anyway.
